When it comes time in your life to begin searching for a new job, or even a first job in a particular career field there is no doubt that a killer resume is very necessary. Some individuals may have a resume service write their resume for them but with a few simple tips you can write your own killer resume that can land you the job. People make a number of mistakes when writing the resume, ranging from to much information to to little information, irrelevant information, or even in some cases wrong information. Knowing what kind of information employers are looking for will help you to give them the resume they're looking for and in the end may even get you the job.

The first thing you will want to do before beginning to prepare your resume is decide which type of resume you should use. The three main types of resumes are functional, chronological, and combination. No one type of resume is better than the other but rather each one is meant for a different type of situation. For those with extensive experience in the position they are applying for a chronological resume would be the best choice but for those with a lack of hands on experience or those just graduating from college a functional resume would be better. Or you can go with a combination of both types if you are confidant in your experience as well as your employment history. Which ever you decide to choose it should be tailored to your specific situation.

One thing that is very important when preparing your resume in that you get all of the contact information correct. You should not only list your address and your telephone number but these days it is also important to list your email address. Employers do not want to decide to hire you and then have difficulty getting a hold of you. A mistake in contact information could end up costing you the job you hope for.

The next important aspect of your resume, and maybe even the most important, is your objective. The objective in a resumes says something about what your goal is not only with the particular companies your applying to but about your long term personal goals as well. Knowing how sure you are of yourself and your future will go a long way with almost any employer. Nobody want to hire someone that doesn't know where they hope to be a year from now.

Finally, the most important aspect of your resume is going to be your experience. Experience in a resume even tops education as with experience an employer knows that you have or don't have the skills necessary for a particular job. And you should be sure that the potential employer has all the information necessary to check on your experience as well otherwise it does no good to list it.

With these simple tips and a prospective employer in mind you can get going on that killer resume that will land you the job you always hoped for.
