Sometimes it seems as if getting the first date is the hard part. The reality is that once you're on the date, you don't want to blow it. One of the keys is to keep the conversation flowing. You don't want everything to be about you, either. It's important to focus as much attention as possible on your date. Make the conversation be about her by asking questions. But you'll need to be careful and avoid questions that are too personal. Once you get to know each other a little bit, the deeper questions are OK, but these are the "safe" questions that will help keep the talk moving on a first date:

* Do you have any hobbies? Not only will this give you some insight into what she's all about, if you find a common interest it could fuel your conversation for hours. No matter what her hobbies might b, don't make light of them. Real interest in her hobby can lead to other questions - i.e. "how long have you been doing this?" or "that sounds difficult, how long did it take to learn?"

* Do you have any brothers or sisters? Often when your date starts talking about her siblings, she'll reveal a bit about her personality and the way she handles relationships as well. Even though it's a revealing question, it's much safer than asking about parents, for example. Parents might seem to be a safe topic, but many more people have conflicts with their parents than with siblings. If she brings up her parents, then you can assume it's a safe topic as well, but until then, stick with brothers and sisters. Finally, asking about family implies that family is important to you (implies stability).

* What do you do in school/for work? Both school and work tend to be pretty safe topics. Either can open the door for continued conversation in a lot of different areas. Again, make sure you stay focused on her story. Keep her talking about herself, and you'll win her over.

* What are your school/career/life goals? For some girls, this can be a tough question to answer, however it shows that you have an interest in what really makes them tick. Compared to guys who talk about her looks, this shows that you care about her as a person. Also it implies that you're also thinking about your future.

* What are your favorite movies/TV shows? gain, if you have a common interest, you'll be able to highlight them. If not, this question again gives you safe fuel to continue talking about her without seeming to be prying or getting too personal. Even if you've never seen her favorite, it can lead to questions such as, "really? What do you like most about it?"

* What type of music do you like?/What is your favorite book/author? Depending on the girl, either or even both of these questions can give insight into what she's like. As in some of the other questions, if you uncover a common interest, you'll have lots to talk about. Even if you've never heard of the band/book/author, her answers can lead to other questions - questions than again show a deep interest in her.

* Do you like any sports? This might seem a little odd, but this questions does a few things. First, it's another safe question about her. Second, if she does have any sports interests, you might discover a common interest for future dates or just conversation. Finally without dominating the conversation and making it about you, it implies that you have an interest in some sports.

Conversation is probably the most important aspect of a first date. If you say the wrong things, you could quickly lose her interest or even come off as being "creepy." However, if you're able to keep the conversation focused on her, while keeping the topics "safe," you'll have plenty to keep the talk flowing while showing her just how great a guy you can be.
