When you purchase a new shower, the issue that you are going to run into is that it doesn't happen to come with a door, at least not usually. There are a few options, and one of them is to use a standard shower curtain. This is a lot easier than installing a set of doors, but don't you want the aesthetics of a glass shower door? That would certainly be a lot better, and with just a little bit of effort you can have those beautiful glass shower doors, and everyone will see what a great job you've done remodeling your bathroom.

The first thing you're going to have to figure out is what size your shower doors need to be. There is a standard size, but there's also a chance that you've chosen to install a bathtub that is larger than the norm. If this is the case then you will need to look for different sized doors. Measure the opening of your shower or tub, and then you need to determine whether you have a bathtub or a shower. This should actually be fairly obvious, so take a look and figure out what type of doors you need to install. Note that bathtub doors are shorter than shower doors, so take that into account when you buy your doors.

The next thing that you are going to need to do is install the track. There will be a track on the ceiling as well as the base of the tub or shower, you need to install these as per the instructions, and make sure that you install the side tracks too. Naturally the side tracks aren't required for shower door operation, but they do keep the side of the tub from being beat up.

Once you get everything set up as per the instructions that came with your shower doors, you need to hang the doors. Once again please do this as per the instructions to make sure that they actually operate smoothly. Once you hang the doors make sure that they are able to slide back and forth. If they do not seem to work properly, then you need to make sure that you hung them properly, and if you did so then you might not have set up the tracks properly. It is very important that you set up the tracks properly the first time because if you have to hang them again you may find that there is aesthetic damage to the tub which cannot be repaired.

If you did hang them properly then you can proceed to put a layer of silicone around the corners of the track. Once you do this, you won't have to worry about water leaking past the seams and having bacteria grow in areas that you cannot reach without removing the shower door tracks.

It's definitely not an easy task, but at the very least you will have a great looking shower! Many people have said that a glass door is the best type of door for a shower. Aside from people wandering in, it's very easy to clean and you don't have to worry about replacing it every six months or so like you would a shower curtain.

Installing a shower door is a great move. If you need more information talk to the retailer that you are buying the door from. Also make sure that you read the instructions because each and every door is completely different. Good luck and happy showering!
