I get a kick out of people when I ask them what strategy they use to market their product and they tell me something like, “Oh, I do a little of this and that…some classified ads, article marketing, a little PPC. It’s good enough.” Now don’t mistake me. If you’re budgeting $300 a day on pay per click and making three times that much in income, then you probably don’t need to be reading this article anyway. But if you’re still fighting to promote your site, then keep on reading.

There are more methods to generate traffic than Carter has liver pills. The issue is, most people either don’t know about these techniques or they’re just too lazy to put them into action. Certainly, I can go and list all the common methods to generate traffic, such as classified ads, PPC, article marketing, SEO, social bookmarking and blogging and pinging, but there is a world out there that is beyond this that most people don’t think about or even know about.

Let’s begin with something as simple as a press release. Now, press releases are slightly different from your standard promotional technique. A press release actually should not be promotional. It should narrate on what your product, site or service is and how it is of value to people. What makes it unique? What makes it something that will be of importance to people? Also, it should be objective and not read like an ad. A good press release can generate tons of traffic to your new site.

What about social networking? Twitter is all the rage today. Well, why not begin following on Twitter composed of people who share similar interests. Not everybody on Twitter is an online marketer and maybe there are a lot of folks there who are interested in YOUR niche and YOUR product. Imagine putting up a blog with valuable info about that niche and sending tweets to your followers that include your blog URL. For that subject, you can add useful info in the tweets themselves.

Then of course you have forums. Like it or not, there are forums in just about every niche. Why not go to one and share what you know with the other members? Don’t try to market your site. Don’t post ads. Instead, look for questions that you can answer and actually answer them. Do these long enough and other forum members will begin to honor you.

And the above only scratches the surface of what you can do in addition to the standard stuff like article marketing, PPC, SEO, social bookmarking and blogging and pinging to promote your sites. There is offline marketing too. When was the last time you took out a small ad in a local newspaper?

Point is you can never do enough to advertise your business.
