How to Use Hypnosis to Stop Smoking?

For those who would like to stop smoking, there are many methods out there. You can try laser treatment, acupressure, replacement therapy, etc. Hypnosis is, however, supposed to be the best. It does require great skill, but when used properly, it can produce wonderful results.

There are many practitioners using hypnosis to help their patients quit smoking. It is becoming a very accepted form of treatment, no longer something to whisper about or keep to yourself.

When we hear the word "hypnosis", we start to wonder "can I be hypnotised and would it work for me?" Well, the answer is "Yes!"

Hypnosis cannot force you to do anything you don't really want to do. It is simply a way to assist you in getting in touch with deeper layers of your psyche, but you are still in control of the entire process, even if you are not really conscious of it. It's a well known fact that hypnosis can only be effective when the subject on some level (even if only subconsciously) agrees with the instructions given by the hypnotherapist.

Let's find out more about it, then. What is hypnosis? It is a way for us to relax our mind and focus on the one thing that is a problem to us, on our goal and the result we want to achieve.

Hypnosis helps us to relax and sink down to our unconscious, where the driving forces behind our addictions lay. It helps us reprogram all the associations and beliefs, often totally irrational, which nevertheless have been directing our behavior for years.

Hypnosis can be done in two ways. We can either hypnotise ourselves or go to a professional. It is best if we first consult a professional hypnotherapist, because self-hypnosis requires a great deal of practice and patience. A hypnotherapist will most likely suggest multiple sessions to help us stop smoking.

One of the fears people have when contemplating quitting smoking is that it will be terribly difficult and that the withdrawal symptoms will be hard to endure. And yet I have heard many stories where people quit from one day to the next and never even thought about it again. Their decision was so strong that there was no thought of "cravings". This would suggest that the mental part of both smoking and quitting smoking is the key. And that the body will just follow. If the mind is undecided, the body will be torn by urges and "withdrawal symptoms" or "cravings". And if the mind is very clearr in what it wants, the body will suffer very minimal effects. Nicotine should leave the body within 3 or so days and there are many things you can do to minimize discomfort during that period.

Hypnosis helps us clear the mental pathways to making a clear and unequivocal decision. And once that decision is made, we don't even need any external help. Many people have quit at this point without any external aids, and they have never gone back to smoking. Why? Because they didn't want to. But that "didn't want to" has to go all the way into the subconscious. It cannot be a shallow "wishful thinking".

So give it a try! Quitting smoking does not have to be traumatic! It can be the beginning of a wonderful period in your life. Start looking forward to it already! Many people admit that going without nicotine for 72 hours is very doable. And that's really all it takes for the physical side to not be a challenge anymore. And once the mental challenge has been met, you will be on your way to freedom.
