How hard is it to accept others when you can’t accept yourself? You may not think that it is that complicated, but how you feel about yourself is reflected in how you treat other people. For example, if you have a lack of respect for yourself, that same respect will be lacking in your relationships with friends and family members.

It’s not easy being a young person let alone being a Christian as well. Adults won’t admit that they don’t always look back on that time in their life with fond memories. But, to be truthful and honest, you are experiencing growing pains, peer pressure, societal pressures, puberty and a host of other things that are not easy to deal with.

The one gift that you are getting here that your parents may not have had is the gift of the knowledge about God’s love. Right now, you may even be questioning if God is real. Rest assured He is.

The Bible says that God is real and alive but all you need to do is look around you to see that it’s true. Think about all the stars in the heavens or the layers of the atmosphere that protect us from the power of the sun or even the miracle of being born. Everything in the universe comes together too perfectly to be a coincidence or an accident.

And all that leads to you. Out of all the things that God has created you are His prize masterpiece. God knit you together before you were a sparkle in your mother’s eye (Psalm 139:13-14). He knows who you are and who you will become. He wants that for you but you have to believe it too.

With all of the pressures in life, it is easy to get down on yourself. Looking in the mirror isn’t always a pleasant experience. Your hormones tell you that unless you look like a million bucks, no guy or girl will be interested in you. And, most young people your age base their self-worth on the opinions of others. Adults do it too.

What you need to know is that you can hold your head up high because God created you to love you. Despite what circumstances surround your life at this moment, He wants to work through you to help others.

You may even be one of those young people who feel that they have messed up their life and there is no turning back. You made a mistake and others have left you because of it. God will never look at you in disgust or hatred. He sent His son Jesus to Earth so that you could know that.

When Jesus hung on the cross, he was crucified between two robbers. They were legitimate criminals who were guilty. One of the robbers asked Jesus to save him. Jesus told him that he would be in Paradise with him that very day. If you aren’t sure about God, it is never too late to turn to Him and experience an abundant life.

And, that is what God wants for you – an abundant life. Your friends may think that being a Christian youth is boring and you can’t have fun. That is the biggest misconception about loving Jesus. He wants you to have everything that He can give you. Christians laugh, love, live and play.

Life is not fair and things won’t always be easy. Both friends and parents will let you down sometimes. That shouldn’t scare you but make you cling to God even more. Nothing can change how we look in His eyes. Accept His view of you as who you really are.

Read this affirmation aloud to yourself:

"God Loves Me,
God is Guiding Me,
God is Protecting Me,
God is Showing Me How to Live My Life"

Additional Scriptures:

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
-Jeremiah 29:11

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8:38-39
