Have you been envying the models, actors, and even regular people who seem to have been blessed with perfect abdominal muscles? If you think that beautiful abs is impossible for a regular person to achieve, then you should think again!

Take a look around…underneath those baggy sweatshirts; humans of every size have one thing in common. The fact is - we all have a set of abdominal muscles. They do a lot more for us than make us look great on the beach. Our abdominal muscles hold our bodies up, helping us with posture and helping us to keep our organs in place. Developing your abs, even just a little, will do wonders for your body as a whole; not a bad bargain when you consider the small investment of time needed for a body tune up.

The first, easiest, and best thing you can do to start improving your abdominal muscles is focus on your posture. Be sure that your head, spine and hips are all in alignment, and pay attention to the feeling of your abdominal muscles holding your body up. Hold your chest up and shoulders slightly back, not in an exaggerated motion, but in a way that feels good. Engaging your abdominal muscles in this way will help to put them in their proper place and will make you look better automatically. Be sure that you are breathing correctly as you work on your posture. As you begin this process, check your posture every so often and while you are in different positions. This is a great way to feel better automatically.

If you are overweight, or if you have a sedentary lifestyle and have let your muscles go, then you will need to pay some attention to your diet. Consider cutting out some of the extras like sugary soda and fatty foods. Make changes one at a time, and be sure to drink plenty of water. Keep in mind that excess fat on your body is hiding your abs – so if you want to reveal those muscles you will be working on, fat loss is key.

Finally, you will need to begin an exercise program. If you do not already exercise, start with a simple walk around the block, focusing on your posture and breathing. Warm up and stretch your whole body in a way that feels good. As you exercise, focus on your abdominal muscles for a few minutes each day. Crunches are a good exercise to start with, and as your abs become stronger, you can progress to more advanced exercises.

Be kind to yourself as you make the changes that are necessary to reveal the muscle structure that was hiding for so long. Any lifestyle change can take from a few weeks to a few months or even longer if you have been overweight. Find a friend or two to go on this journey with you and enjoy the process of changing your body and your life.

Once you have begun to change the way you eat and move, you should consider taking your routine to the next level. Not only will you be much healthier, you will be able to show those abs off next time you go to the beach.
