A child’s powerful mind is like a computer that processes information and has tens of thousands of thoughts a day. These thoughts include short affirmations(statements)that play over and over in their mind which has a direct affect on how they feel and on their behaviour.

Very young children will have their minds filled with whatever is in their environment and said to them by their parents or caregiver. As they grow up and they develop language skills, with help, they can learn to train their mind to work in a positive way.

For example, A child who is going to have a test or exam may be having negative thoughts and feeling stressed. They may be saying to themselves things like, ’I can’t do this’, ‘I am stupid and can’t remember anything’, I will never be as clever as the others’, I will fail’. It is the annoying voice in their head that is convincing them of doom and glume.

It stands to reason that this will not help a child to concentrate and do well. As parents you can teach them to say positive affirmations to change their negative outlook to help them to think about doing well and focus on doing their best. Saying things like ‘I am going to do really well’, ‘I will pass this test’, and repeating these short statements over and over for several minutes will stimulate the mind and affect a child’s behaviour making them more likely to feel like studying and revising some more.

An easy way to describe to your child the power of affirmations is to compare the mind to a tape recorder. It's always on, recording all of our thoughts. Whatever thought we think, whether it's happy or sad, positive or negative, it is recorded.

For example, when we find ourselves in a situation that reminds us of a past negative experience, our mind plays back one of the old thought tapes. While we can't change the unpleasant experiences that have already taken place in our lives, we can change how we react to similar situations. By encouraging the mind to have positive expectations through the use of affirmations, we can eventually erase negative thoughts.

These affirmation techniques will give your child a simple but powerful tool they can use for a lifetime. Because children will become what they think about, as parents we are going to want to make sure that they think good positive things.

With practice, children can develop the mental habit of using affirmations in a whole range of different situations, resulting in positive attitudes, more happiness and confidence and enjoy being able to direct their own mind to help them to achieve what they want in life.

Help your child's mind grow strong and powerful with the use of affirmations and give them strong foundations in life and the belief in their self to reach for what they want in life and live a good life. As parents is useful to know just how powerful a child's mind really is.
