To keep your patio furniture looking like new, you have to be diligent about taking care of it. You don’t want to have patio furniture that is dusty and dirty when you are entertaining. Depending on what type of outdoor patio furniture you have will determine what you have to do to clean it. You can use patio furniture covers to protect your furniture when it is not in use. However, before you cover your furniture up you should make sure it is clean and dry.

The easiest way to keep your outdoor space looking inviting is to get into the habit of wiping everything down before you cover it. That way when you take the covers off you won’t have to spend time cleaning it. If you do it every time you use your outdoor furniture it will stay looking new and you won’t have to spend time scrubbing off built up dirt.

To keep your patio cushions looking good you can make sure to wipe them down with a damp cloth. You should immediately clean any spot that may stain the fabric. If you allow it to soak in your cushions could become stained and unattractive to look at. The foam inside of the cushion cover will also become soaked and could cause mold and mildew to form.

The cushions on your patio furniture usually come with washing instructions. Most covers can be slipped off of the foam cushion and machine washed. You can wash them in the washing machine but don’t put them in a dryer. If you use a dryer to dry them they could shrink and not fit over the foam. You should lay out the cover on a flat surface to dry.

Besides stains that occur from accidently spilling food or beverages on your outdoor furniture your furniture can also be stained from suntan lotions and oils. If your outdoor furniture is used by a pool or for sunbathing it is wise to lay a towel over the cushions to protect them. The chemical in tanning products can make your patio cushions look worn and cause oily stains over time.

You will also want to wipe down your outdoor grill or BBQ before you cover it up between uses. That way grime and grease will not build up on it. Depending of what metal your grill is made of you will want to find the right product to clean up your grill and make it look brand new.

Most outdoor patio furniture can be kept clean and maintained by using a mixture of mild liquid soap. You can clean the cushions and furniture frames using a damp sponge. You should try to get into the habit of wiping down your furniture and cleaning up any spills as they happen. You will save yourself time and effort by not having to scrub the patio furniture. After it is clean you can protect the pieces by using patio furniture covers when not in use. By following these suggestions you will have an outdoor living space you will be proud of for years to come.
