How do you start learning to play the violin? You might have asked this question to yourself over and over again. The answer sometimes eludes you because you do not know the first thing about playing your favorite instrument – the violin. It produces the most magnificent sounds that touches the heart and warms the soul. If your greatest desire is to learn how to play the violin, here are some insights that might help you get started:

1. Choose a system of learning that fits you. In learning how to play any musical instrument, you need a system that is already proven to produce a good result. You can ask people who play violin on the system they have used while they are still learning to play. This could give you some perspective on what kind of learning system really works and what system fits you best.

2. Practice at a regular time. You must set a specific time for you to practice playing the violin. This not only gives you the regularity and learning but it also avoids messing up your other daily activities. You also have to practice in a place where no one can disturb you and is void of any distractions so that you can focus more on your music.

3. Secure a violin with a good quality. The sound that a violin produces is what mostly encourages or discourages a player. This is why a violin of good quality is necessary. You don’t really have to go for those expensive and branded violins. All you need is a good violin that produces the sound properly and lessens the pressure and strain you have to exert to be able to play it.

4. Learn the art of tuning your own violin. This is essential because you must know how a normal violin sounds like. A violin must always be in tune because most of the time it have to be played along with other instruments. Aside from that, the sound that you make will be more accurate if you violin is well-tuned. You can use a piano to guide you in tuning the violin or you can also use an electronic tuner.

5. Face your frustrations. It is normal to feel frustrated when learning how to play and instrument especially the violin. This is because there will be times that you will feel as if you are not progressing at all. The key to overcoming it is through facing your frustrations and carrying on with your practices. Do not let anything stop you from learning and improving.

6. Fit your instrument to your music. It is a must that you love the music you are creating with your violin. Because if you don’t, chances are you will easily be disheartened and quit learning altogether. If you love rock music, play violin with your rock music. Violin is not an exclusive instrument for classical music. It can be used for any genre; you just have to figure what is yours.

7. Never give up. Giving up is the sign of a loser. You must keep an attitude that doesn’t consider quitting as an option. Learning anything can be frustrating, trying, annoying and many other things, but you must keep your focus. Always continue learning and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. It will only help you grow and learn. So, when you feel like quitting, listen to your heart of hearts and hear what it has to say.

Learning how to play the violin is just like learning anything else. You need a lot of patience and passion for it. Not to mention that you also have to invest your time and money for it. But always remember that in the end, it’s all worth it.
