How to Quit Smoking: Setting Yourself Up For Success

Have you been a smoker for years but recently noticed that it was affecting your life and health? Do you want to kick the habit and be free? Here are some hints, tips, and information on how to quit smoking.

Knowledge is certainly power when it comes to an endeavor like this. You need to know what to expect so you are prepared. The withdrawal period will last for about the first two weeks. It is extremely difficult to get through, but not impossible by any means. Having bad days are common during the first several months. So do not give up or doubt yourself if you make some bad choices.

Try to build yourself up mentally and physically to the new challenge. Think positively and say to yourself that you will not fail. Don't focus on how strenuous the task might be. Decide on a certain date that you will begin and don't change it or make excuses. Go ahead and try to get yourself in better shape physically by drinking plenty of water and getting exercise.

Create a support system by getting your family and friends involved. This is an invaluable resource for the toilsome task ahead. For the competitive person, make a bet with someone that you will win the fight by a certain date you set. You might even know a friend that can quit with you. Relapses happen in this process. Accept that you will slip up and just keep going full ahead.

How you proceed in actually quitting is completely up to you. You can find patches, gums, and other products in stores to help you. Some people just take steps to cut back. You could choose a particular number of cigarettes you will smoke each day and stick to it. Try a brand that is near disgusting to you. Find another action or hobby to associate relaxation with rather than lighting up. Refuse to smoke out of boredom or habit. Grab a nice walk or a banana instead.

Staying busy on the day that you start the program is essential. Toss all the cigarettes in the house and go out for the day. Spend time with friends, workout at the gym, hit the movies, or wander the mall. Go to the dentist and have the tobacco stains cleaned off your teeth. It will keep you motivated every time you smile. Remember you'll also be saving quite a bit of money. Think of all you can do with it!

Soon after you have quit, your body will start healing the damage done to areas like the lungs and heart. You will be able to taste and smell more keenly. Breathing and being active will also be easier. You have significantly lowered your chances of developing heart disease or lung cancers. You've virtually saved your own life.

Once you have gotten rid of the nicotine, you are going to feel so much better. Pay attention to the advice on how to quit smoking and use it well. Now go get started and be on your way to a fuller life.
