If you can make your kids concentrate in learning the basics of piano, they can get many benefits from it and play very well. Read on the following beginner practice tips to have a good start in reaching their goals.

There is a caution before I tell you these three tips. No matter how simple it may seem, don’t let it confuse you – this is a prime thing to consider. What creates confusion to a lot of beginning piano students is often the simplicity of the ideas. Learners should realize that not everything that is complex should be the first to learn. Important topics about piano often start with simple ideas. Both children and parents must learn to appreciate the importance of learning simple piano topics.

With the contemporary and modern generation we are in right now, most people presume that things which don’t glow right through their faces are not worth to be taken into consideration. Very simple ideas - this is what most kids need to learn to achieve a specific goal. To help your kid gain perspective, here are the thoughts that you need to share with them.

Can you specify any simple things that can be counted as important? So, what are they? To help you begin identifying them, here are some ideas – water, sunshine, trees and your name. Let’s say for example, having a name is quite simple to think. However, can you visualize how would it feel if you don’t have a name? It is typically dark for 6 months of the year and light for another 6 months on the regions above the Arctic Circle. How do you think will this affect the lives of people who reside in these areas? Surely, it is very tough. The basic values that lead to a happy life are simple and plain things like a warm smile, good meals, and a glass of water the ray of sunshine. Most of us may overlook these simple things. Why don’t we learn to appreciate them more? It can get dangerous to not recognize these simple needs of your kids. Don’t let them follow the same foot steps of those people who have given up. Make them focus on these and you will see that success in learning the piano is not that far to reach.

Now let’s move on to the main topic that we need to tackle to get your beginner student achieve the goals that they want to accomplish.

1. Maintain your eyes towards music.

Not staring down their hands and maintain their eyes towards music can aid the learners to visualize their own keyboard in their minds. This is indeed very helpful. I couldn’t stress it out further. At times, students will need to stare down their hands of course. But not in the case when the basic five finger hand positions is learned. Students need to maintain their eyes towards the music once they have their hands in place. An example – Students aren’t really learning their hand position or the keyboard if they don’t have any idea what finger E is under without staring at their hands.

2. While you play, sing the note names.

As you play, singing the note names is a great way of learning how to read the notes. You can reinforce learning with just this simple action. You will know if the child don’t know the name of the notes if they can’t sing them as they play along. They are just memorizing the notes to play instead. Don’t get me wrong. It is amazing to remember the melody by simply listening. We are just talking here about the ways of knowing how to read the music. Both listening and gaining knowledge are reinforced through singing the note names.

3. A rounded hand position over the keys should be maintained.

It is crucial to maintain a rounded hand position over the keys. You may ask why? Students aren’t using their proper muscles in playing if their hands are not rounded. They are pushing the whole hand down to the keys to play the notes instead of extending every finger from the knuckle at the top of the hand to the keys. It creates a lot of strain to the wrists not enabling the fingers to work separately. The fingers can easily extend to the keys making the wrist flexible if the hands over the keyboard are rounded.
