Piano is definitely one of the most priceless as well as the heaviest furniture of your home. Even if you are not really fond of playing it, just looking at the piano instrument – may it be a grand or upright piano, it always is the attraction and focus in the room. The main thing you are dealing right now is you want to move it to a new place – a new house or a different room. Though you may think that it really doesn’t matter, you have to understand that there are proper and improper methods of moving the instrument. The tuning can be greatly affected and the instrument can be damaged when you are doing the improper way of transferring it.

When planning to move your piano instrument, there are some basics to remember. Read on to the following caring tips for you piano – the proper way of moving it:

• Obtain Measurements

You have to take precise measurements of the piano to make it move easily whether you plan in transferring it to another room or a new house. Measure the piano height, width and length initially. For larger and bulkier grands, it can really be helpful.

To get to your final move, you have to measure the entry, hallway, doorway and any other place that you pass by in moving the piano instrument. Scheme out the method of moving it before you act so that the people who are helping you will not be weighed down with the heavy and costly piano while you think about what to do.

• Make sure you have all the help you need.

Are you aware of the weight of your piano? You have to know this first so that you will have the idea on how many men you will hire to help out in moving the instrument. In moving the grands, you can have 5 people while for an upright, four people is enough.

• Both the movers and the instrument must be protected.

Before moving the instrument, always lock the covers and the lids. To protect it from getting scratches by the mover or walls, you have to cover it with a soft fabric or cloth. In moving the weight of the piano, do not depend on the casters. Most of the weight must be lifted off the rollers and move it forward.

Be sure that the people who help you out are just right to protect the workers. Do not let someone who has back problems join the workers. The piano can be damage when that person suddenly feels the pain and drops the instrument. Let everyone wear gloves and make sure that sharp or hard pieces are stuck on the gloves that can cause scratches to the piano.

• Correct moving equipments and tools must be used.

A good tool used to move or transport the instrument at a rough terrain or long distance is the piano dolly. It will take some of the workload off the workers and it makes moving the piano up and down easier. But in order to maintain the balance and the movement of the instrument, you need manpower. In order to avoid the damage caused by the bouncing and the bumping in using the truck, always cover and belt it inside.

• Professional movers should be hired.

When you are uncertain and can’t come across enough manpower to help you out, don’t hesitate to contact professional movers or transporters near your area. You will ne assured for a job well done, just worth the money you’ve spent. Make sure you have a plan before moving the instrument. Both the piano and your workers will thank you for that.
