Chitosan fibre provides tremendous weight loss benefits but unlike other fibres, it is also a super fat fighting fibre. Fat binds to the Chitosan fibre and becomes a large mass which cannot be absorbed and is therefore eliminated from the body. This allows for large body fat reduction for dieters. It is nicknamed the 'cheaters delight'.

Chitosan (pronounced ky-toe-san) is derived from a material called 'chitin' which is an amino polysaccharide extracted from the powdered shells of crustaceans like shrimps and crabs. For around 30 years Chitosan has been used to control environmental disasters like oil and toxic chemical spills and for water purification. When sprinkled over an area such as an oil slick, Chitosan works like a 'pollution magnet' to soak up pollutants and make them easier to remove. It is from seeing how the chitosan worked as an absorbant sponge like magnet that the idea came to use the ingredient as fibre supplement for humans to consume.

Chitosan works by binding lipids in the stomach to aid elimination. It attaches to fat in the stomach before it is metabolised. Acting marvelously as and indigestible fibre, it passes through the digestive system without being absorbed and without contributing any calories. Chitosan actually captures and inactivates fat and cholesterol by preventing absorption and subsequent storage. Thereby being an unmatched dietary supplement designed to safely enhance your weight loss management programs efforts. With these benefits it has been known by users to assist in reducing cholestrol. However, for the average dieters it is better known and marketed as a 'fat blocker'.

Fibre has often been described as nature's way of 'taking out the garbage'. Chitin, a precursor to chitosan, is the most abundant natural fibre next to cellulose. It is low in calories, low in fat and a valuable source of fibre. Research has shown that chitosan can bind significantly higher amounts of fats than any other fibres. So, how does fibre work in the body? A good intake of dietary fibre reduces the amount of time food spends in the intestinal tract. If there is an imbalance of bacteria or lack of dietary fibre, this transit time can increase to 72 hours, and beyond. Fibre such as chitosan can help speed up the passage of food and so assist in the removal of toxins and wastes from the body.

Like plant fibers, chitosan possesses many of the same properties as fiber, however unlike plant fiber, it has the ability to significantly bind fat, acting like a "fat sponge" in the digestive tract. This acts as a powerful magnet for fat in the digestive tract, and is a proven safe and effective way to control your fat intake. The chitosan traps the fat and prevents its absorption in the digestive tract. It passes through the stomach into the digestive tract, and on to the large bowel intact where it absorbs water and other waste materials, then is passed as stools. It is vital that we are aware of protecting our digestive system. Junk food, inadequate or poor quality fluids, pollution, alcohol, tobacco and stress, all effect the efficiency of the digestive system. When our digestive system is not functioning at its best, the rest of the body suffers. The digestive system cannot function without sufficient fibre. To ensure you maintain your digestive system energy levels, keep stress to a minimum, concentrate on eating a wide variety of natural colourful foods, drink plenty of water, consider adding supplements to your diet. This will protect your digestive system and help you to maintain good health and avoid colon cancer.

At present, the amount of fibre consumed in a typical Australian diet is just 20-25 grams. Nutritional experts recommend a daily intake of 35grams of fibre each day. What happens if not enough fibre is consumed? Research shows that a lack of fibre in the diet is the root cause of several health challenges. We need fibre for Colon cleansing and overall system health, including a proper digestive system. Here is the delema though, you would need to consume the equivalent of approximately 25 slices of wholemeal bread to consume 35 grams of fibre. One solution to maintaining a healthy diet and losing weight is easy to achieve with a formulated meal replacement product and fibre supplement. The vital question you need to ask your self now is, does your diet include 35grams of dietary fibre daily and what are you going to do about it?
