Toy dogs are not only bred as house pets, they are also associated with the ruling class long ago. Since there are many varieties of toy dogs, make sure you know enough information about the specific breed so that you will not encounter any problems while caring for your toy dog.

Toy dogs are becoming popular apart from the fact that they make the most superb house pets. These toy dogs are best for people who live a more sedentary kind of living. This is also ideal for the disabled, elderly and those that travel a lot. They are also good companions and their size makes them ideal in apartment types of houses.

There a more benefits in owning a toy dog as compared to larger dogs. They can easily adapt to smaller spaces and they need less exercise. They also shed less as well as eat and eliminate less. They are also lightweight and easy to carry.

In the olden days, toy dogs are prized possessions of the ones from the ruling class. In fact, they are more associated as a symbol of affluence. They are also presented towards one another in order to gain favor. Some of them are even utilized as watch dogs, and lapdogs. They are typically bred as house pets, serving as companions for more than thousands of years now.

Even though they have a small stature, these dogs have a big attitude and they can be very tough. In fact, there are varieties of toy dogs whose courage is not proportional to their size. I this case, owners should provide them not only with love but with structure as well.

These small dogs are called toy dogs ever since the ancient lapdog lineages. Aside from this, it is because they are most often the down versions of other breeds. A good example would be the Toy Poodle and the Miniature Poodle. It is also noted that all the breed registries do have a toy dog breeds group. This is even though every dog included usually varies from each other.

These toy dogs are quite small, often below 15 inches and weigh no more than 15 to 16 pounds. The smallest ones even weigh 4 to 6 pounds only. When toy dogs are below 10 inches, they are oftentimes regarded as miniature. The smallest ones are also called teacup or pocket size. This is even though these are not really recognized by some of the breed registries. Thus, the ones included in the Teacup variety are the Teacup Maltese, Teacup Chihuahua, Teacup Poodles and the Teacup Pomeranians.

Some of the benefits in owning a toy dog are the fact that they are loving and wonderful pets. Their energetic and happy demeanor makes them loving and fun companions. Aside from being quite attractive, they are also an intelligent species.

Caring for Toy Dogs

Since these toy dogs are much favored for their tiny size, their caring requirements are also minimal. You can bring them along with you when you travel. In fact small dogs live longer than large breeds. They are more accepted in public areas and are often pampered as well as spoiled more than other dog breeds.

The only things required for exercise of a toy dog is a short walk or two and just romping around the apartment. Many of them only need regular grooming especially for those breed with long hairs. Some could be more fragile than the others, promoting a greater risk for injury because they are small.

If provoked, these dogs can be quite snappy. They can even get along with other animals and youngsters. Thus, these miniature dogs are also susceptible to various health problems as well as behavioral issues. However, if you will choose a dog from a very reputable breeder, if you can provide them with adequate care, if you give them a healthy balanced diet and proper training, issues and problems can be minimized or avoided.
