Q. I am using several transmitters to track my dogs but finding it distracting as I pick up all transmissions even though they are all on different frequencies, what can I do?

A. One thing to do is to turn off the other transmissions when you are tracking one of your lost dogs. Use the switch that picks up the nearest range signal to track your lost dog and eliminate other signals that you do not need.

Q. What happens if I lose the signal when trying to track my dog?

A. You do not want to start tuning all over the dial as you will lose the proper tuning. Make sure that you note where the signal setting is before you start using the tuning dial to search for the signal. If you continue to do this by rotating in a full circle, your dog is out of range. You should then turn the knob back to the original setting and move to a location that is higher or more clear to keep trying to pick it up.

Q. Why is my transmitter putting out such a weak signal?

A. In most cases, the receiver is not tuned properly and is on the wrong frequency. It may even be on the wrong channel. Use the knobs to find the short distance signal and reset your tuning.

Q. Can I use two transmitters on my dog?

A. Some hunters, who are worried about losing their dogs, will put two transmitters on the dog. By placing a backup transmitter on the dog with a battery that has the longest life, you will most likely always be able to find your dog. You will just have to be patient so that you can find the signal.

Q. Can I tell how far my dog is by using a dog tracking system?

A. Not with a radio tracking system. A GPS system will be able to tell you the distance as long as your dog is in range. GPS systems have a range of about 7 miles and traditional tracking systems can get up to 12 miles of distance.

Q. Why don’t I get the full range on my transmitter?

A. Distance and range are affected by any barriers in the landscape. You will get a better signal when you are in the wide open spaces than if you are in a dense wooded setting. The signal can also get affected when your dog goes into an area where there is even more of a barrier, such as a deep ravine. There are very few places where you can get the full range of a sight transmission.

Q. What is sight range mean?

A. Sight range refers to the distance and range that your dog can run and still get tracked. The sight range is affected by any barriers that are in the landscape such as trees, bushes, hills and ravines. The more barriers that are in the way, the less sight range that you have for your transmission signals.
