How to Make the Most of Free Email Marketing

Free email marketing is one of the best forms of advertising, theoretically. It has the largest target audience, it offers focused advertising, and with the right service provider, you can even see how effective your campaign has been. Of course the results of effectiveness may be found a little wanting. This is because of the stigma that advertising over the medium of email has. There is another form of advertising that uses this very medium and it is called spam. Spammers are a group of internet mailers who send unsolicited mails to hapless internet users in the vain hope that one of the hits will end up in a sale. Unfortunately, the global average is not in favor of the spammers with a maximum figure of 15 people out of a million mailed who will even bother to open a spam mail. A big problem in email marketing is also the presence of spam filters that can aggressively weed out any spam from an inbox. These mechanisms use complex arithmetic and find patterns mails from repeated keyword or phrases.

Once you have decided to undertake the route of email marketing, you need to figure out how to make free email marketing work for you. This form of email marketing is a bundle of services like creation of the mailer, sending the mail, and then analyzing the statistics of the mails sent. Utilizing these basic attributes is crucial to any email marketing campaign whether free or not.

The first part of this exercise is to ensure that you are using a template that is perfectly suited for you. This means choosing an attractive design template that also is easy to use and populate whenever you want to send a mail. Templates are used as a cost saving measure since hiring a design crew for every mailing campaign does not really work out financially.

The next part of this exercise is something that is in your hands – email addresses. On the assumption that you are serious marketer, you would have acquired most of your addresses after an elaborate opt-in procedure. This is not something to be taken lightly as non-conformance of this rule will end up putting your mails in the path of a spam filter. If by some chance you acquired your email address using some kind of software harvesting technique then you might have to be ready with your lawyers as you would have broken government rules on spamming.

When all this is complete and your mails have been sent, the next step is to monitor statistics. Pay special attention to the open rates as this will tell you how many recipients actually opened your mails. You should also analyze click through ratios as this is an indication of activity after reading and understanding an email. Finally, you must also look at how much revenue free email marketing is earning for you. This would require collating all the existing statistics with your own revenue figures.
