Email marketing is an effective way to promote your products or services. Emails are completely free and businesses of all sizes use them to reach out to customers, provide relevant information and retain them. Email marketing is popular among users because they like to receive information from companies of their liking. Finally, it all boils down to customer retention. Companies use free email marketing to build strong and lasting relationships with customers, who in turn, know them and wish to hear from them, on a regular basis.

Your subscribers are always interested to know what you are up to. They look for information and updates on new products that are launched. It’s through your emails that your customers decide, whether they wish to receive information from you or not. Hence, you have to come up with highly targeted emails. For a start, try to understand what your customers’ want which depends on what their mindset is. In other words, find out if they want general tips or they want information on your products or services. If you can identify their needs, then you can try and satisfy them accordingly.

The most effective email campaign is one that has relevant information and subtle sales pitches. The next thing you should take care of is the template you choose. Your emails should be synonymous with your brand and your customers should be able to identify it immediately. A number of your subscribers may read your emails in the preview panes of their email services or clients. Hence, the overall format of the email has to be spot on. Place the important components of the email on top so that your customers will see them without any problem.

Gather some more information about your customers apart from their names and email addresses. This means, ask them about their likes and dislikes in your sign-up form. Based on this information, you can segment your subscribers list and come up with highly customized content for emails. The point is the more targeted your emails are, the more likely it is that your customers will act on it.

Your customers will decide whether or not to open and read your emails, on the basis of the subject line. It is probably the most important aspect of an email. Hence, your subject line has to be highly catchy. You can include a call to action to evoke curiosity among your readers. If your customers do not open the emails, then no matter how good the content is, it will not make any difference. The subject line should be highly concise yet very creative.

Keep away from all spam like terms. If your emails get flagged for spam, then they will surely not reach your clients’ inboxes. You should also keep track of all the latest terms associated with spam. Go through all the clauses mentioned in the CAN SPAM act. The act was passed not to stifle email marketing but to improve its standards.

These are some effective ways on how you can use free email marketing for customer retention.
