Driving can be a dangerous business. When you are on the road, it isn't so much your driving that you have to worry about so much as it is the other drivers out there that are the problem. If you know that you are going to be doing a lot of long distance traveling, it would behoove of you to review some safety tips so that you can keep yourself as well as whoever else is driving with you safe while on the roadways.

In this day and age, it can be easy to forget about the fact that driving is a privilege- not a right. That being said, you will often see other drivers on the road who look and act as if they created the roadways and have ownership over them. Therefore, this gives them license to do whatever they please. However, this is NOT the case. When you are driving, you need to be vigilant of how others are driving as well as how you are driving. For example, would you change lanes without signaling if you knew that there was someone behind you? What would happen if you didn't signal and changed lanes anyway but then at the same time the person behind you did the exact same thing? Now you are faced with a situation where there are two people who aren't aware of what the other person is about to do.

Signals are put in cars for a reason. However, on today's crowded roadways, people fail to use them and subsequently find themselves getting into motor vehicle accidents with others. When you turn on a turn signal, you are letting the other drivers around you know what your intentions are. And when other motorists know what your intentions are, they can react accordingly. For example, if someone in front of you puts on their turn signal indicating that they want to make a right turn off of the road at some point, you will react by slowing down your vehicle to allow them room to slow down in order to make the turn. Now, let's take a look at this same situation if the person failed to put on their turn signal. Now you are faced with a situation in which you have no idea what the intentions of the person in front of you are. As a result, you may not decrease your speed. It can also be dangerous for pedestrians because if there was someone running along that sidewalk and they were preparing to cross the street, they may run the risk of getting hit by a vehicle that suddenly turns a corner when it had no intentions of turning the corner before.

Every little thing counts. The decisions that we make or that we fail to make when we are behind the wheel of a moving automobile can have devastating and sometimes deadly consequences. To one person, not using their turn signals may not seem like such a big deal, but could you imagine if no one used their turn signals while driving? How would we know where the other person intended to go?
