Dieting is not easy. There is no magic pill or easy button you can press to make the weight disappear from your body. However, dieting does not need to be a nightmare either. There are things you can do to make dieting much easier. Follow these four tips below and you will be shocked by how fast you drop your excess weight.

1. Your mind is either your best friend, or your worst enemy:

This is a tip I pulled out of Anthony Robbins playbook and it can be applied to literally every aspect of your life. To be successful in weight loss you have to change the way you think about weight loss. Right now you probably identify hunger pangs with discomfort. They hurt and you do not like them. What you need to do is associate hunger pangs with a feeling of satisfaction. The satisfaction that you are succeeding with your diet.

Basically you need to take all those negative thoughts and feelings you have about dieting and replace them with positive thoughts and feelings. Most of all you need to make the pain of NOT succeeding at your diet greater than any pain the actual diet will put you through. It’s called cognitive reconditioning and it works.

2. Stress makes you fat.

From a mental health to a physical health perspective stress is bad for us. The more stress you have the less healthy and unhappy you will become. It is no secret then that one of the keys to losing weight (as well as improving our overall quality of life) is to get rid of the stress. I know sometimes that is easier said than done. One of the big problems with stress is that it makes us produce a stress hormone called cortisol. This hormone slows down our metabolism and makes fat cling to the most undesirable locations – Our bellies and our butts.

Doing light exercise, finding a hobby, and even having a glass of wine or a cocktail before you go to bed are great ways to relax your muscles and let the stress of the day pass you by. Also think about getting yourself a massage every once in a while. Massages are known to not only help you relax, but boost your metabolism and your immune system as well.

3. Small Plate Psychology

Great magicians are masters of sleight of hand and misdirection. They make us see one thing, when in reality something else entirely is taking place. Well I am going to teach you a little magic trick you can use against yourself to make your diet more effective.

Put all your food on small plates.

Yeah it’s not really a mind blowing illusion, but really does work. By putting your food on plates smaller than your normal dinner sized plates it will look like you are eating a lot more food than you really are. Whether you realize it or not this will have a positive psychological impact on you. It will dramatically increase the level of satisfaction you feel with your meals. And satisfaction is one of the keys to dieting success.

4. Replace that pasta.

1 cup of pasta equals 200 calories and a whole lot of fat. Replacing that 1 cup of pasta with 1 cup of veggies means you will lose 2 inches off your waist at the end of the year. That’s 2 inches you do not have to do any work for. To me that sounds like a pretty good deal. When you consider that pasta has virtually no vitamins, minerals, or other nutrients that your body needs while veggies are loaded with them, this food swap is a no brainer.
