If you want to know if thrush is contagious, you probably have Candida or what is more commonly know as a yeast infection. Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of the Candida yeast fungus. Thrush is very contagious and it is usually spread through sexual activity. It is not considered a sexually transmitted disease or STD because you can get it without sexual contact.

Thrush is not only contagious it can spread to other parts of your body. Besides spreading on your body it can also spread to a sex partners body. So you need to stop having sex until it is cured or you might just keep passing it back and forth to each other and never get rid of it.

It is not uncommon for sex partners to keep passing back and forth to each other, not realizing they have the infection or never really getting rid of it in the first place. If you have it you have to be honest and talk to your partner and refrain from sexually activity until it is completely gone. Don't give into temptation. Another thing to keep in mind, when you are drinking you have less will power and control, so if you have the infection it might be wise to not over-indulge.

Thrush is a type of yeast infection and if you've got it you know it. If you think you might be getting it, you need to take measures to make sure you don't get it. The symptoms of a yeast infection are burning, itching and discharge in the genital area. Both men and women can get it. It is definitely not a day at the beach for either party.

Besides sexual activity, it can be spread to a baby if the mom is infected and nursing. A problem for babies is that they are very susceptible because their immune systems are not fully developed. Also, the baby can get it through a diaper rash and can possibly spread it to the mom during breast feeding.

Babies generally get Thrush in the mouth and it does occur there for adults as well.

Besides babies with underdeveloped immune systems, other people with weakened immune systems can get Thrush, like people with HIV/AIDS, diabetes or cancer, since the infection cannot fight off the infection. Also, if the balance of bacteria in the body is upset, Thrush can occur. This can happen by long term use of birth control pills, steroids and antibiotics.

A home remedy option that has been used for years to get rid of Thrush is Gentian Violet. Gentian Violet is an anti-fungal agent that is even used in hospitals for a variety of applications. Mixed with a 1% solution with water it can be painted on the affected area. Keep in mind that Gentian Violet is a purple stain. These can be applied to a tampon to treat yeast infections.

For the most part, if you use some simple and common sense precautions you can keep from spreading it or getting it.
