Many people dream of having their own business where they can be their own boss. For some people it's because they want to work for themselves and for others they just don't like the boss or job that they have now. Very few people however take that bold and confident step to accomplish this goal. The others simply accept that they have a steady paycheck and go on with their lives. Here are just three reasons(there could be more depending on each person's situation) why that second group may chose to say in a job they don't like.

1. Fear

Most of us have this fear that we seem to have been born with. It was probably programmed into us by our ancestors and passed down through the generations to most if not all of us. That fear is the fear of the unknown. I think that part of the reason for this is that we are afraid to fail. Once we're settled into something we don't want to try something else because it's new and since it is new, we might end up failing and have to face the disappointment of that failure. Not to mention you feel like crap afterwards. Trust me I know.

You may not realize this but many, if not all, of the famous successful people you have heard or read about had that same fear but they didn't let it stop them. They acted in spite of that fear because they knew just I have come to realize recently that you only fail if you don't try. I know it sounds corny and cliché but it's true. So don't let the debilitating fear of the unknown stop you from doing the things you want to do. As long as it's legal.

2. You're comfortable

Many of us live in what's called our “comfort zone”. We know we want more but again we're afraid of trying anything new. Life if boring when your comfortable. That's partly the reason many people hate their jobs. They keep doing the same thing over and over year after year because it's what they know and they're comfortable doing it. They like the steady regular paycheck(now matter how small it maybe).

On the other hand it's that same comfort that's making them miserable. They are not growing or expanding or challenging themselves. It's kind of a catch-22: They like being comfortable but being comfortable is making them miserable. Well as I have recently come to realize, when you try something new, it's only scary and nerve racking at the beginning. After you do it over and over it becomes more natural and you begin to realize that the fear is temporary.

3. Loyalty

People tend to have a sense of loyalty to their employers. That was all well and good back in the “good old days” when you would work hard and put in thirty, forty, or even fifty years and then retire with a great sense of pride but not anymore! Those days are gone! Today companies care about one thing: Money. They don't care that you have two kids to put through college or one that needs braces and the other one needs glasses.

If they can replace you with a machine or outsource your job so they can make more money and the CEO can get a bigger bonus, they won't think twice about dumping you. If heaven forbid you should get sick and die, they might send some flowers(don't count on it though) but chances are that they're already interviewing your replacement or they've already hired someone before you're in the ground. In this day and age it's time to start looking out for yourself.
