We can't always be at home, just as we would not always be in the office if we worked a normal job. However, that is no reason to miss out on business ideas, or customer orders when you are going about your normal daily routine. We take a look at ways you can do business on the run.

If your at home work involves set hours as a virtual call center operator, or you provide other work that is established by someone other than yourself then you are likely to be able to leave work behind when your shift is over. For the many at home workers who have an aspect of creativity involved in their work, or those who take orders, having the ability to work on the run is essential.

Take the freelance writer. They may struggle to come up with new ideas for articles, or inspiration for locally inspired news stories, yet these ideas are absolutely essential if they are to keep working. Anything they see during their day may inspire an idea for a story, but without a way to establish story recall the idea may be lost.

All it takes is a small notepad and pencil or a small digital voice recorder in order to keep this inspiration safe. Instead of further frustration by trying to remember an idea that seemed so wonderful at the time, but suddenly seems elusive, you are able to go home and start working on your next big story. You could even leave it till the next day knowing your next idea is kept safe. This assured you have something to do when you are ready to work again.

This would work similarly for people who make clothes or toys, to record ideas for new designs. It is unlikely you could draw a complete design on the run, but basic ideas can be put down on paper so that you can flesh them out later.

Orders are another aspect of your at home business that can adapt to mobility. The vast majority of your orders may come through your website, but what if you meet someone while shopping who loves what you, or what your child is wearing and wants to buy a similar item? Giving your contact details may be useful, but the person may not call or follow through. It may be better to take their contact details if they are comfortable with that. You could also give them a business card, or take an order from them right there and then.

You may take it one step further and have all business emails routed directly to your cell phone so you are aware at the earliest possible opportunity of a big order being placed with your company, or a problem with a client. You can then adjust your plans accordingly.

Even businesses that do not to need creative input such as web hosting will need to be advertised. The ads themselves will need ideas and inspiration can hit at any time.

Running an at home business doesn't have to mean working twenty four hours a day, but neither does taking time away from work mean missing out on ideas and opportunity. With a little organization you can have the best of both worlds.
