Gordman’s is a department store like no other. With energetic staff and unbelievable customer savings, it is the shopping destination for most in Middle America. Becoming part of this family is a quick and easy process that starts with filling out an online application located on the company’s website. Although submitting online applications are quick and painless, there are some things to remember to ensure to you get that phone call for your first interview.

First and foremost, it is imperative that your personal information be correct and up to date. Your potential employer can’t call you if your phone number has expired. Also, when filling out the application, be sure not to leave any blank spaces or be vague in any of your answers. Proofread your application before you send it off, looking for any spelling or grammar mistakes. If possible, have a family member or friend re-read it to catch anything you may have missed. You have but a few seconds to make an impression, so be clear and concise to get your message across. Any discrepancies or missing information may cause the reviewer to dismiss the application all together.

Depending on the nature of the job you are applying for, be sure to highlight your skills and abilities through past jobs. Previous employment is crucial because it allows the reviewer to see what have done before. In an industry like Gordman’s depatment store it is important to have experience in sales, customer service or management positions. Relevant skills such as these are ideal because it demonstrates that you have existing knowledge and would fit right in to the Gordman’s department store team.

Providing solid references are just as important as past employment history because they also give your potential employer insight into who you are. Remember to use references that will speak highly of you and show you in good light. Your potential employer is looking for first hand insight into your work ethic, level of competency and personality. Be sure that your references are relevant to the industry; this provides more of a specific discussion between your potential employer and your previous employer. Also, ensure that you are providing your current phone number and correct address for your references so you can be sure that they can be contacted.

Once you have proofread and submitted your online job application to Gordman’s department store you are done for now. The acceptable amount of time to wait before calling for a follow-up is one week. Give the HR department a quick call to find out the progress of the application. Not only does this ease your anxiety about waiting, but it also gives you the opportunity to speak to a representative and stand out from the pack. Getting comfortable speaking to your potential employer will put you one step ahead of your adversaries. By following these simple recommendations it will be no time at all until you are part of the Gordman’s family.
