It is also San Diego County’s seat and San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos’ economic center. It is even regarded by Forbes Magazine as the 5th wealthiest city in the US.

The Beaches of San Diego

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear San Diego is its beaches. This is from beautiful Imperial Beach along the Mexican border up to North County’s Oceanside. You are also guaranteed with activities from surfing, snorkeling and swimming to walking, jogging, cycling and skating.

Here are some of the acclaimed beaches of San Diego:

Mission Beach-Pacific Beach-Mission Bay

This is a favorite area among tourists and locals due to its miles of paved bike paths and sandy beaches. Belmont Park of Mission Beach even features the popular Big Dipper roller coaster, various carnival rides and several other activities.

Coronado

This is deemed as one of the best beaches of San Diego. It is located near Hotel Del Coronado, opposite the bay downtown. It is popular for having the widest expanse of sand. It is also near gastronomic and shopping venues.

La Jolla

This is the premier coastal section of San Diego and regarded as “The Jewel of the Sea.” You will find here a European-style village, dining choices and upscale shopping among others. You can enjoy exploring the tide pools and snorkeling at La Jolla Cove.

Encinitas and Leucadia

These are the least crowded beaches of San Diego. They are situated along Coast Route 101. You will find here several dining and shopping opportunities.

Del Mar

This quaint village area has several beaches to boast of. It is by Coast Route 101. It houses the world renowned Del Mar Racetrack and fairgrounds.

Carlsbad

This is where you will find the acclaimed flower fields and LEGOLAND. It also features uncrowded pristine beaches and a fun village with several restaurants, shops as well as pathways for riding and walking activities.

San Diego Zoo

This zoo is situated in Balboa Park, along the northern section of downtown San Diego. It features a Flamingo Lagoon, 30 child size exhibits, a baby animal nursery and Peting Paddock. It also houses the Wegeforth Bowl, a sea lion show; the Giant Panda Research Station; the Polar Bear Plunge and the Elephant Mesa.

Wild Animal Park

This park is situated at 15500 San Pasqual Valley Rd. Escondido, CA. It is along the northeastern section of Mission Valley and downtown San Diego. You will find here the African Aviary, the Nairobi Village along the Mombasa Lagoon, the Petting Kraal and Lorikeet Landing. You can also ride their Wgasa Bush Line Railway in order to see freely roaming animals in herds like elephants, giraffes and rhinos among others. There are also treks that include the Gorilla Habitat, Heart of Africa, Kilimanjaro Safari Walk and the Condor Ridge.

LEGOLAND

This is situated approximately 30 miles along the southern section of San Diego, in Carlsbad. It is regarded as one of the premier theme parks of San Diego. You will find here a bright red 9-foot LEGO dinosaur as well as Dino Island, The Beginning, Explore Village, Funtown, Miniland USA, Imagination Zone and Knight’s Village. You also get to join several interactive play areas.

Sea World

This is situated along the Mission Bay area of San Diego. It is near beach areas, Mission Valley hotels and downtown San Diego. It features aquatic shows, exhibits, amusement parks and rides. You will be able to experience here fun, thrilling and unforgettable activities like shark encounters, climbing rope ladders, pretending as pirates and playing in the sand among others.
