With palm-fringed beaches and a wide variety of flora and a fauna, you will feel as though you are close to paradise on your holidays to Cayo Coco. The fourth largest island in Cuba is known for the popular all inclusive resorts that line its beachfront and the attractive coral reef that attracts divers from all over the world to the waters of Cayo Coco, Cuba.

Cayo Coco may have its own international airport at Jardines Del Rey, but the majority of visitors arrive from Havana or Varadero and transfer by boat or coach to Cayo Coco, Cuba. There are many reasons why visitors are attracted to the island, it is more picturesque than many of the other tourist resorts and the general atmosphere is somewhat more secluded. This seclusion and peaceful atmosphere could be what attracts the exotic bird and animal life to the island, which hosts a vibrant plethora of birdlife, including other 300,000 pink flamingos and a small white bird called the coconut, or coco, which gave Cayo Coco, Cuba its name. The island is also home to heron, mockingbird and pelicans and therefore attracts birdwatchers from far and wide. Many ornithologists who choose to visit, pair the rest of their holidays to Cayo Coco with a visit to the mainland and the area of Cienaga De Zapata, which is the only place in the world that the elusive bee hummingbird can be spotted.

Ornithologists aren’t the only people that flock to Cayo Coco because of a hobby. Divers can also be found staying in various Cayo Coco hotels. They are attracted to the island for its vibrant marine life, which can be found living off the area’s rich coral reef. The area has its own diving centre located on the beach and visitors can expect to see sharks and barracudas, as well as red snappers and even sea turtles.

But whilst many people choose to visit the due of its flora and fauna, many people choose to spend time simply relaxing in one of Cayo Coco’s luxury hotels. The area is home to some excellent resorts from the Melia Cayo Coco, Cuba which has rooms built over the sea enabling you to get close to nature, to the Tryp which is bordered by a natural lagoon. Cayo Coco, Cuba is also the perfect place to take part in a spot of horse-riding with the long beach perfect for riding out into the shallows.

From your Cayo Coco hotel you may want to arrange some excursions in the local area. Cayo Coco, Cuba is one of the best places in the world to try your hand at deep-sea fishing. This island has Ernest Hemingway’s stamp of approval and has hosted the Ernest Hemingway fishing tournament since 1959. Here you can also try your hand at catching a number of different species of fish, from swordfish, to barracuda and marlin, which your host will happily cook on an onboard barbecue for you at the end of the evening.
