Becoming an Electrician – Fool Proof Guide

If you’ve always wanted to bring light to where there was darkness, then you have a need to become an electrician. This job isn’t for the faint-hearted, however. It is a very difficult job with its own rewards and sacrifices. While it is very hands-on, it is definitely not a job for people who are not quick in thinking and adapting to certain situations. When you’re working with electrical wiring and live currents, it is important that you remember everything you have ever learnt about a specific situation. So, if you believe that becoming an electrician is for someone who isn’t smart, then you’ve come to the wrong section. You definitely need to be smart, dedicated and hard-working to become an electrician. If you’re in high school and reading this, then it is very important that you take these basic subjects in high school, including the following: math, science, electronics and mechanical drawing. While it is not mandatory that you take these subjects, it will set you up on your way to becoming an electrician and making your path a smoother one at the end of the day. There is a lot of technical components to becoming an electrician and you need to have the basics of math, science, electronics and even mechanical drawing to safely sail through your apprenticeship. Before you apply to become an apprentice, you can consider joining the military in the electrical field. The navy and the army have a wonderful program that allows you to continue safely on your path of becoming an electrician.

Your next step is becoming an actual electrician apprentice. To do this you will have to call the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee; through them you will have classes and training that they will educate you in the minimum requirements of becoming an electrician. If you’re wondering for how long you will need to do your apprenticeship for, it has to be done over 4 – 5 years. During each year you will need to do over eight thousand working hours that have been done on the job, actually training. That is a minimum of two thousand working hours each year. Including those eight thousand hours that you will need to work, you will also need to have at least 144 hours of classes that you need to attend in order to get all the theory knowledge that is required to become an electrician.

While this might seem a lot of hours, you need to be able to prepare for the volatile working situation you are going to be putting yourself into on a day-to-day basis. Once you have finally finished your apprenticeship, you can finally get your electricians license. Depending on where you are the requirements will be different. So, know that you know how to become an electrician – what are you waiting for? Go become one!
