An alternative way of containing your pets has been gaining popularity, thanks to its effectiveness in the job. The electric pet fence removes the need for leashes, pens, and even fences to keep your dog from running away. If you have a dog that always gets lost, you may want to contemplate getting an electric pet fence as well. Currently, there are two systems that create an electric pet fence. Check their descriptions below to help you choose between them.

The Common secret

One killer feature that an electric pet fence has and that could never be trumped is the invisible fence. These systems are able to generate unseen barriers where people and other pets can cross but not a dog with the receiver collar. The secret is the generation of a radio signal. Basically, radio signals are used as fence with the receiver acting as a trigger to the mild static correction. It is how the radio signals and receivers are used that makes the two systems different. One uses wires while the other does not.

Ground Wiring

The first system uses a long wire that is laid around the house and is connected to a signal-generating device. The wires become a ground antenna that broadcasts the signal. When a dog passes the boundary, the receiver detects the signal and sends the correction.

Note that the wires need to be an inch or more underground in order to avoid being tripped over. The wires are also insulated and weather resistant. The biggest advantage of this system is the ability to get the biggest play area possible for your dog. Increasing the area and boundary will only depend on the size of your property and the length of the wire needed. You may need to hire a professional to dig spaces for you and lay down the wires.

Radio Transmission

On the other side, you have a completely wireless system. Here, a transmitter powerful enough to broadcast a signal for short ranges is used. The signal is emitted in all directions, so the boundary will be circular. When your dog is inside the play area, the receiver detects the radio signal. At the boundary, the signal is weak, and that’s where the signal gives a static correction after a warning sound.

This system becomes every easy to set up, and the electric pet fence could be up in less than two hours. The system is also portable, allowing you to create invisible fences even when you’re on the outdoors. However if you have a large property, you may have a hard time looking for a transmitter that can carry a high range. Most systems can create a maximum play area of 180 feet wide. Then there is the fact that the boundary is circular, when most lots are rectangular. This means your pet will have a smaller play area compared to a wired system.

Either Way, It Trains Your Dog

Whatever your current needs are, you will be assured that your dog will not be kept prisoner by the system. There is a daily schedule where both you and your dog perform exercises to help him get familiar with the signs. In less than a month, you may not have to turn on the transmitter regularly.
