Using an electric dog fence is also beneficial to those areas where there are zoning laws that prohibit erecting fences. Other benefits include less view obstruction both from outside and inside of the house, and they are also perfect in protecting flower beds and off-limits spaces.

Disadvantages

Electric dog fences may not work well with heavy coated dogs, but this could be remedied by frequent hair shaving. A receiver may cost $300 or more, and there have been police reports of burglary in houses where the system is used. The receiver was removed by thieves directly right from the dog’s neck. As a worst-case scenario, they may even steal your pet dog as well.

Some dogs also have this high threshold for pain, and if they are strongly distracted and agitated, they may go through the boundary. If they try to re-enter the protected area, they may be reluctant to return since they do not want to feel the same mild shock again.
