Buying a safe is a must. Crime stats are up, as many people are getting desperate in this poor economic situation we are in. Protect your valuables, both home and business from burglars and thieves, including some employees.

Before you buy a safe, be sure you compare the different capabilities of each one to keep your particular type of item safe. For instance, UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Ratings, should be considered when buying a fire safe. The various categories are easy to understand and a good guideline. You will base your decision, of course, on your perception of your particular circumstances in case of a fire. The explanation of the following, is with regard to paper documents.

Class A Fire Safe: is safe for temps up to 2000 degrees for up to 4 hours.
Class B Fire Safe: is safe for temps up to 1850 degrees for up to 2 hours.
Class C Fire Safe: is safe for temps up to 1700 degrees for up to 1 hour.

If you are considering a wall safe, know that the standard space between the studs has already been considered in the making of the safe. Wall safes are good for home or business. They are easy to install and few tools are needed. You won't likely have to run out and buy something. Even if you are a small person without a lot of muscle strength, you can install a wall safe yourself. The safes come with detailed instructions.

For a home safe, you might consider the usual small safes, or even the ones called hotel safes. These are a convenient and small size, and may be just right for your needs. The sizes are good for home and small businesses. They bolt down just as the others do, and with some companies, this can be done for you. Besides bolting your safe to the floor, you may also want to consider putting it in a inconspicuous place. Be sure to consider everything you might want to put in your safe prior to purchasing one. Consider the following: cash, birth certificate, social security card, insurance policies and financial papers, tax info, jewelry, a gun or two. Think this through before making your purchase.

If you own several guns, be sure to consider a gun safe. There are many sizes, with and without horizontal shelves. Keep yourself, your family, and your business safe in case of a break-in, and don't let valuable and irreplaceable items be taken from you.

Combination lock, or electronic lock is up to you. Codes can be changed quickly and easily. Some safes come with one type of lock on the outside, and a keyed entry compartment on the inside, such as a depository safe.

When you browse the safe website, look at the various types, even if at first glance you think you want a particular type. This browsing can be very educational. And you can often ask questions by contacting the email listed on the site.

Whether your purchase is $100 or $1,000, it is truly an investment for your safety, peace of mind, and normality of life in your future. If you stop to think of life after having been violated or ripped off, a shudder will surely go through your entire being. Use this valuable information, and buy a safe today.
