Just because you have a box lying around doesn’t mean it work just as well as real wardrobe boxes. The thing is that having the right kind of box for this specific job is important and could very well be the deciding factor between a smooth move and totally stressful one. Think about it, can you hang your delicate garments such as suits, gowns and other formal wear on an ordinary box? No, you can’t. This is why the use of an actual wardrobe moving box is very important. Now, there are plenty of moving boxes available everywhere and picking the right one can be a bit of a challenge. So, what should you be looking for? Here’s a rundown of the most common moving boxes available and what their general purpose is.

The supermarket box – these boxes are made of durable cardboard and are great for use with something heavier like small furniture and such. They could also be great for holding clothing such as seasonal ones like your heavy coats because these boxes can certainly take the weight. These boxes come in various sizes so make sure that you have a good estimate of what you plan on putting inside of them before you go out and buy one. Otherwise, you could end up with something that’s way too small for your needs and thus creating the need to purchase another one. Remember that fewer the boxes, the more space you have.

Moving boxes – these are the ones that are really meant for carrying items to and from another house. They are quite durable and some even come with padding inside of them. They are great for use with various household items and because they come in varying sizes, you could pretty much keep anything in them. Do note, however, that there are cheap varieties that tend to collapse easily. You would want to stay away from those because those boxes might end up damaging your possessions during the journey to your new home.

Wardrobe boxes – these boxes are specifically made to hold your clothing. They actually have a place inside them where you can hang your garments. The best bit about these boxes is the fact that you need not fold your clothing just to get them to fit inside. Your best suits, uniforms and other everyday work wear would not be creased and you need not bother ironing them again. What could be better than that?

So now that you have the short list of the different kinds of boxes available for your use when you move homes, here’s a tip to help you unpack easier. After all, unpacking can be quite troublesome too if you don’t plan for it beforehand.

- Keep all your seasonal clothing inside a couple of wardrobe boxes. Doing this would allow you to leave these boxes untouched until the time comes when you actually need these garments. This would also make unpacking easier for you because you don’t have to deal with accidentally unpacking things that you have no use for at the moment.
