1. Research. First and foremost, browse photos online to view different styles and find out how you want to execute your photo shoot. Boudoir can be as sexy or low-key as you want, and looking at examples will not only tell you what you want, but also what you don't want.

2. Get a photographer. Finding a photographer is one thing, finding a talented one with professionalism is another. Check out each photographer's portfolio online and ask them lots of questions, especially regarding their experience, qualifications and what the session will be like, from start to finish. Find out about their privacy policies. You may not want anyone knowing about your portrait session. Make sure to meet with the photographer ahead of time to ensure that you will feel comfortable with him or her. Doing so will make you confident that you can be yourself and go wild during the photo shoot.

3. Pick the price that’s right for you. Whether you're high or low on cash, the right photographer is just around the corner. Amateur photographers are often willing to photograph you for a very modest price or even for free if they're looking to build their portfolio. Even if they fail to post this on their Web page, it's worth a shot to ask. On the other hand, if you're ready to spend lots of money, make sure you like the photographer's current profile. If you have even an inkling of a bad feeling, then it's a no-go!

4. Look your part. “What should I wear?” This is probably one of the biggest questions that you'll be asking, but not to fear! Chances are it's hiding in your drawers or closet, and nothing is too over-the-top or too little. Colors and styles are as limited as your mind, and boudoir photographers are used to seeing everything from fantasy costumes to bikinis, dresses and heels. Of course, if you're a little more high maintenance, then you can always grab your best bud or a wardrobe stylist to help you along the way.

Makeup, like your clothes, is up to you. Chances are you know what looks good on your face more than anyone else, so put on your makeup before arriving to the photo shoot. An advisable method is to start with natural makeup so you can add increasingly dramatic makeup throughout the day. This will provide you with lots of options to choose from.

Before arriving, wear loose clothing and show up sans underwear and socks if it's possible. Sweat pants might not feel the sexiest before a shoot, but it will ensure that your body isn't masked with lines on set.

5. Play your part. Whether or not you're camera shy, practicing your poses in the mirror at home will boost your confidence. If you run out of ideas then the photographer will help you out. A portrait consultation with your photographer prior to the photo session will put you at ease. The photographer will know exactly what you are wanting. Check out magazines and pull out your favourite pictures to mimic the model. Give then to the photographer to keep on hand for the photo shoot. And of course, just remember that no one will be judging you, so let loose and have fun!

6. Be organized. Make sure it’s okay to bring a CD. It may seem old school but it's the best technological way to make sure you get access to your photos right away. This way, you can pick out your favourites for editing by the photographer, or have them taken to the printer directly. Be sure you have a common copyright understanding between the photographer and yourself before the shoot.
