Parks, sports arenas, and other places that attract a large population most likely use trash cans or some type of trash receptacle. These outdoor trashcans not only provide waste management to the facility at hand but are a necessity to those using it. Most importantly, trash cans are often at their maximum capacity and the facility tends to be plummeted with trash all over the ground. Reason being, trashcans are not spread thoroughly throughout the park or facility. Guests then find no reason to really care if their trash doesn’t make into the trashcan itself and then find it more convenient to leave their trash on the ground.

Trashcans are most used when they are in an area that is easily accessible. Also, they are easier to find if they are a color that contrasts the ground or their surroundings and they are more likely used when they are not filled. In fact, according to the program “No More Trash Facts” (originating in Missouri and being adopted by many other states), it claims that 33% of our trash nationwide is fast food waste. This implies that there should be more trashcans to control waste in areas such as parks, football or sports arenas, school or university cafeterias, etc.

Customized trashcans that come in a variety of colors and that can be customized to match benches, lockers, or bleachers offer the facility a professional appeal. They can also be engraved or perforated with a school or team logo, company name, or other personalized effects. Bright colored trash bins are easy to find for both the user and the person having to change the trash liner or can itself and when spread thoroughly will be used more often then the throwing the trash on the ground. In fact, people who seem to “hold on to” their trash will most likely throw it on the ground if they don’t find a trash can within sight. “No More Trash Facts” reports that those that are likely to use the ground as their personal waste management are people between the ages of 19-24 and travel or visit facilities in small groups. With a customized waste basket, students, fans, or just visitors to stadiums all over the nation will be able to easily see a trashcan and throw away their trash with ease. City or national parks will notice a significant difference in the cleanliness of their park and facilities and other densely populated places will have offered a controlled opportunity to waste management.

The secondly most popular form of trash is paper. Look in your trash can and you will notice a variety in the types of paper we use. For instance, schools and universities throw away the most types of paper including but not limited to: cardboard, notebook paper, printed paper, sticky (yellow) paper, etc. Medical offices tend to shred most if not all paper that will be thrown away and city offices will do the same. The average person working in any one of these positions will throw away 4 pounds of paper each day. This doesn’t exclude the average family of four using the park for a family picnic. The amount of trash that is thrown away is just under 4 pounds. Imagine the amount of trash that is thrown away at a major NFL football game!

Furthermore, trashcan receptacles offer facilities a form of waste management in a controlled amount of space. Those who are head of waste management at a facility can control the amount of trashcans provided at certain more densely populated areas of the facility rather then places of the facility or area that is less likely to be visited. Remember, trash cans that are used outside are more likely to be used if they are brightly colored, easily accessed, and aren’t overstuffed with garbage. The logo is a great touch and tends to attract people even more!
