A website which performs well in search engines can deliver instant financial success for businesses. Businesses that perform well in search engines instantly give out excellent first impressions. Before a site user has even accessed your site they will be able to see that your site ranks well compared to your competitors. Straight away this conveys the message that your business is professional and business-like, businesses which perform poorly and are tucked away on page ten (or even the second and third page) of search engines will not.

There are a phenomenal number of articles across the internet which aim to give businesses insights into how they can improve their performance in search engines. While marketing a website effectively is a difficult and time consuming process there are some very easy tools and techniques that you can use to diagnose how your site is doing at the moment and to diagnose what needs to be done to remedy these problems. These sites provide an overview of your site’s marketing effectiveness but should be taken with a pinch of salt as they do not specifically consider the marketing context of your company, for this I’m afraid that there is no substitute for talking to a good old fashioned on-line marketing consultant! I would recommend taking a look at a site such as website grader or similar, these sites provide you with a free automatic report on the quality of your site’s online marketing.

This will give you some idea of what you can do to improve your ranking in search engines. Some of the categories such as their analysis of keywords on the site are no longer as important as they used to be in online marketing. However, there are sections of the report that will give you an idea of some simple changes you can make to your site to improve the grading of your site such as listing your company in online directories. It’s also a lot of fun to compare the rankings of your site with your competitors! Some of the more technical issues raised can be discussed with internet marketing specialists to get an idea of possible changes you can make to your site. Having a chat to an internet marketing expert will also probably raise a few new possibilities open to you specific to your industry sector or business objectives.

Checking on whether your website is functioning properly across various browsers is another really easy action you can take which would enable you to evaluate whether your site is working properly once potential clients access it. Web designers can neglect to test this as thoroughly as they should so it is well worth checking. Sites such as Browsershots are particularly good. Again, unless you are quite techie, it is worth discussing with a web professional the steps you should take to clear up any problems you have.

Finally and maybe not quite as important as the two above is the speed at which your web site displays. A useful site for checking this out is websiteoptimization.
