Andrew Collier

When planning large private parties one must not rush into any hasty decisions. Such events take time, patience, experience and most importantly money. Money is not the deciding factor, time is though. When wanting to plan a large function the most important step is setting the date to allow yourself time with which you can now shop around. With so many Event companies that promise the world and deliver a bag of crisps how do you separate the good from the potentially ugly?

Compile a list

Seems easy enough right, wrong! When compiling your list take the time to check the credentials. It says a lot when you go to a company’s headquarters and there isn't grass growing on the front lawn. If the owner can’t maintain the garden how is he expected to organize your private party?

Sift through your list

So you have six event companies and now you’re spoiled for choice. How is one expected to sift through the list and narrow it down to one? The key phrases here is question, question and question again. When having to choose the best company with which to trust your party to, expect them to sell themselves. Let them tell you why they would be perfect for you. There’s a reason why we live in a democracy and if they can’t explain why they wouldn't jump at your every request then politely explain why they wont be receiving your business. If nothing else next time they come to pitch a party expect the red carpet with all the trimmings.

D-Day

Now that the list has been narrowed down to three or even two depending on the interviews. Expect the best. Start by explaining what it is you want and how you expect it to be delivered. Remember, they will treat you the same way they will treat your guests and if you don't get the red carpet treatment then don't expect it on your big night. Ask for a presentation that would include a table set, type of music played and food that can be expected to feature at your private party. Host them to supply a waiter fully clothed and a bartender to see the caliber of people that they would be inviting into your home.

What next?

So the presentations are all done and you have been left impressed by two of the companies at hand. This is where you keep your cards to your chest and think hard. Ask them both for their respective quotations and to specify what it is they will be charging you for. A detailed quotation will give you an idea of whose here to take your money and who's going to provide you with a service. It may seem strange but comparing prices to see the difference in food and how much their staff will cost should be a eye opener for any respective individual who's throwing a private party.
Now sit back and enjoy the comfort of knowing your private party will be a success. As a rule it is your party, so have fun.
