Many companies have installed residential solar power systems at different parts of the country. It seems that families are becoming more and more aware of the advantages and benefits of using these alternative energy sources for their own homes. Some may have known about it through television and newspaper campaigns against climate change and global warming. Others have learned about it from neighbors and relatives who have started using it for various reasons of their own.

Aside from the main and obvious reason of helping the environment by using renewable energy from the sun, those who chose to use them have also benefitted from this option. These families were able to save on monthly electrical bills and were able to use and spend this money on more important daily needs or future savings. They also know that having residential solar power built into their houses increases the market value of these properties for future resale. They could also earn income by selling excess power stores to their neighbors and friends. The savings would not only last for a few years but companies have guaranteed that these installed solar panels are of low maintenance and would work well for one or two decades more. It is therefore a worthy investment made by the family.

It is sometimes of more advantage to leave the installation of the system to the companies selling them. They are more knowledgeable about it and if things don't turn out well, they could be liable to come back and re-install it without a fee. There are many companies doing these things. One has only to review their products and compare prices and quality, and also know what people are saying about their kind of service and expertise. Many families have found this deal more convenient and economical in the long end.

There are also choices about on what specific system the family wishes to put apply in their homes. They could opt for a stand alone product which would make them independent from power utilities in their area, meaning that solar power alone would run all the electrical needs of the household. This choice is more often installed in cabins and far flung areas. The other option is to have it incorporated with a power utility, thereby lessening the monthly electrical bills they are paying.

If a family resides in a subdivision or they belong to a homeowner's association, they also must know the rules and regulations of their association regarding the use of alternative energy resources. However, most often, these homeowners associations cannot prohibit the installation of the system if the residents have chosen to have it in their homes, as it is against state policy.

Those who would want to use alternative energy sources are advised to look into the benefits of residential solar power systems. Many companies however, only allow residential home owners to put up these panels into their homes. Those who are renting in apartments and living not on their own properties cannot have it installed because a contract is being signed between homeowners and the company.
