Finding the right moving company is essential if you want the process to be a smooth one. Some of them are an absolute nightmare to work with and you want to avoid them at all costs. Speaking of costs, you also need to make sure you are getting a great value for what they do. It is important to realize that all moving companies offer different benefits. You need to find out what they specifically can do for you before you commit to working with them.

The advertising for a moving company may encourage you to contact them. However, it is your responsibility to look beyond that as well. You need to find out what their reputation is out there. This can be checked with the Better Business Bureau for any complaints. You should also ask around to find out who other people have used for their own moving needs. Their stories can help you to decide if a given moving company is doing a great job or not.

It is worth it to look into discounts as well. There may be coupons on their website that you can save money with. Just because they are a moving company doesn’t mean they don’t have such offers to encourage people to use them over the competition. Don’t select your moving company based on those offers though. This should be an additional perk when it is offered in order to help you save money but to also get excellent service.

Find out how long a moving company has been in business. Those that have decades of service behind them obviously do know how to operate a successful business. They have seen many changes in the industry yet they are able to keep moving forward. Contact them with any questions you have so you can find out how their level of customer service is.

Contact at least three moving companies that have a solid reputation to schedule a free consultation. This allows them to come to your home and to tell you what they can offer you. Then you can compare those prices, guidelines, services, and time frames to base a final decision on. It is a good idea to have a list of questions already available to discuss with each of them. The answers to those questions can help to determine which one you will pick as well.

Don’t feel obligated to work with any moving company if you don’t feel right about it. Some of them have very good high pressure sales people working for them. Take the time to base your decision upon what you need and what is offered. Don’t be afraid to stand firm. Thank a moving company for their estimate and tell them you will get back to them.

Make sure all of the details of what a moving company has agreed to are in writing before you proceed. This should include what services they will provide, when the work will be completed, the process for any complaints or damaged goods, and what the final cost will be. Both you and the moving company should be signing such documents with both parties having a copy of it.

If you have to pay a deposit before the work begins make sure you do so with a credit card or a cheque. You want to have a record of the money you have paid to them. The balance that is due for the moving services is generally due at the time of delivery. Make sure you have those funds readily available to complete your end of the transaction.
