Moving to a new home can be exciting but it can also be quite a chore. Effective packing will make it much easier for you. Don’t leave your packing until the last minute. Start as early as you can. You can actually begin months before you will move, and even before you have sold your home. Take down things that you don’t need such as pictures and knick knacks.

Make sure you pack everything so that it is well protected. Newspaper and bubble wrap are very useful for this. The boxes you use for packing need to be sturdy. You can get free boxes from retailers or you can buy them from a moving company. Make sure you don’t pack them to heavily though or they can break open when you are moving them. Keep a good eye on your level of supplies too. When you have to the time to pack you don’t want to have to stop to go restock them.

Take the time to properly label each box when you are packing. Write on it what room it will belong in and a description of what is inside of it. One time when I moved I couldn’t even find the towels to take a shower because I didn’t label anything! Since then I have done this every time I move. When you have parts that go to items, place them in a baggie and tape to the item in the box. This way you won’t be trying to figure out what items go with what when you unpack all of it.

As you are packing what you don’t need in your home right now, clear out items you don’t need. Anything that is old or broken should be thrown out. There is no reason to pack it and then to have to dispose of it later on. Donate clothing and household items that you don’t need but that still have life in them. There are plenty of people out there that will definitely appreciate access to them.

As your moving date gets closer you will want to start packing more and more of the items around your home. Think about what you don’t need versus those things you use every day. That will help you to decide what you can pack and what still needs to be left in place. By taking the time to pack a few boxes here and there though you will find it isn’t an overwhelming task.

You can even use stickers to help distinguish between what boxes are essential to be unpacked first and which ones can wait. This may help a great deal if you have lots of stuff for your family to unpack upon arrival. Even packing special boxes of toys and other items can help you to get the kids occupied in the new home while you are working on getting all the boxes inside.

Effective packing is going to help you reduce your overall level of stress when you are moving. It is going to allow you to be able to get everything out of your current residence when they day of the actual move occurs without it being time consuming or chaotic. This process will also help you to find what you need when you get to your new home.

It isn’t realistic to think you can unpack it all in a single day. However, by labeling the boxes and having them in the right room you will be able to find what you are looking for until you do get it all put into a new location.
