A wedding is an important event in everyone’s lives. Therefore, a lot of people earn and save religiously so that they can take care of things on their own for the occasion. Gone are the days when weddings were the bride’s parents’ headache. With almost everyone taking up jobs immediately after graduating from college regardless of gender, weddings have become the priority for the bride and the groom.

With the recently depressed economy more people are looking into cut backs and compromises as far as funds are concerned. With no job security it is time to save rather than spend. However, this does not stop people from falling in love or celebrating it by getting married. Neither should that be the case. One need not have pot loads of money to have a memorable and joyous wedding. All you need is determination and imagination.

Venue

Don’t worry about booking five star hotels and luxury cruises for your wedding. You can have just as beautiful a ceremony in your friend’s farmhouse outside the city or in the backyard of your ancestral home. Not only will these options be available to you for little or no cost respectively, you will be able to decorate it as you like without any restriction.

Guests

Don’t invite every single person you and your partner have interacted with throughout your lives. Only invite those closest to you both, who would be happy to attend the ceremony and give their blessings. Parents, immediate family and best friends are good enough. A wedding is a personal affair. It will be significant for only those who are close to the bride and the groom.

Food

Instead of hiring professionals who charge by the number of heads at the event you should ask your favorite aunt to cook at your wedding. Ask your partner if he/she has anyone in his family or among his friends who can contribute to the task. There has to be one individual on either side who is an excellent baker. The one who would always surprise you on your birthday with a cake and make cupcakes during thanksgiving in the family is ideal for this job. This takes care of the service charge that you would have to bear in case of hiring people. And this way you will also be relieved of the responsibility of making sure that everything is in order.

Music

Although it may seem cool to hire a famous DJ who will dish out you and your partner’s favorite tracks on your wedding, this will cost you a bomb. Instead of doing that why you don’t give your nephew’s band a chance to perform. The music they usually play may not be what exactly you wish for. For that you can always suggest a few tracks or a genre to play during the event. These teenagers are good at covering others’ music. Or you can simply make a playlist on your iPod and use a dock to play music all through the night.

Attire and décor

Buy second hand wedding attire for yourself and your partner. Use wholesale shops to buy the décor from. This includes the flowers as well as wedding occasion flowers cost a lot.
