The holiday season is wonderful. It is filled with delicious sights, scents, and traditions. With all of this fun it makes sense that people want to celebrate. So why not kick off your own holiday season by throwing a tree trimming party? The great thing about this type of party is that it is fairly easy to put together and comes ready made with its own entertainment. So how should you start preparing for your party?

Well, the invitations are the first thing that you need to think about. Compile a guest list of those that you want to have been part of your event. Decide ahead of time if you want to incorporate children into your evening or if you would rather this is an adult’s only type of event. Once you have your guest list you will want to set out to complete your invitations. You can send out a variety of invitations, but no matter what you decide to do you should try to incorporate them into the theme of decorating a Christmas tree. So an invitation in the shape of a tree or an ornament would be perfect. Let your guests know the details of the event (where, when, how long, etc.) and provide them with a number to reach you at in case they have questions.

Next you want to think about what type of refreshments you are going to want to serve at your event. Given that it is the holidays you may want to integrate some festive food choices. Keep in mind that throughout most of the party your guests are going to be up decorating the tree so you will want to have food that is easy for them to grab and go. Christmas cookies are an obvious choice, but do not forget about some savory options. Try to incorporate some delicious hors devours into your spread. You do not need to get too fancy with this, but definitely have some fun. The truth is that a basic fruit and veggie tray and some cheese and lunch meat trays will more than satisfy most guests. However, if you want to provide something a little more extravagant you could serve baked brie or spinach artichoke dip in a bread bowl which are both very easy to make.

You will also want to think about drinks for your event. It is always a good idea to have a selection of sodas for your guests in several different flavors. Additionally, since it is the holidays think about setting out some sparking cider, mulled wine, eggnog, and even hot chocolate. Guests might have a lot of fun with a hot chocolate bar which can be very easy to create.

Of course for any tree trimming party you are going to need a basic Christmas tree. This tree should be bare, but it should be set up in a stand and it is helpful if the lights are already on it. That way you can have them lit prior to your guests arriving to give your room a bit of sparkle. Additionally, you may want to have a table or two set up with your ornaments laid out ready to be hung up. This makes it easy for your guests to see what they have to work with.

No party atmosphere is complete without the music. Again, the holidays make it easy for you because you can simply play seasonal music in the background to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Or, if you have a piano you might want to pull out your Christmas sheet music and invite your friends to sit down to tickle the ivories.

Lastly, you will want to think about a way to thank your guests for their holiday help. Party favors are an excellent way to let them know that you appreciated them joining you. Giving each guest their own Christmas ornament is a perfect way to send them home with a little bit of their own Christmas spirit in their hand, and a memory attached that they will think of every year that they see that ornament on their own Christmas tree.
