Birthstones were used in many important events for numerous reasons.

The name for each birthstone has a meaning and is derived from a certain language. Example: Garnet means, “the grainy”, and is derived from the Latin word “granum” meaning “grain”. This is because of the typical round shape of Garnet reminding us of pomegranate seeds. In the middle ages, Garnet in German was called “karfunkel” to represent the glowing sparks of fire. When doing research on this subject I became aware of so many interesting phenomenons I never knew before. Improving the mind is exciting!
