Old Glory Flaps In The Breeze
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
I woke up this morning way before dawn
I sat on my bench by the edge of the lawn
I meditated on the Lord and his goodness to me
I am blessed to live in America where I am free
I have a tall flag pole by my little white shed
I just raised a new flag, it is white, blue and red
I saw Old Glory whipping around in the breeze
For years it has flown over the land and the seas
As a young child I held my hand over my heart
I learned the Pledge of Allegiance, part by part
I recalled that day when I raised my right hand
I promised to support and defend our great land
As I watched Old Glory gently flapping in the wind
I prayed to the Lord and asked that he would mend
Our great nation so it would not be divided and fall
I believe the Lord heard me as on his name I did call
The red of Old Glory reminds me of the soldiers' blood
Shed on foreign desert sands and in the jungle mud
The 50 white stars set against the blue background
Reminds me of God's grace that is spread all around
God Bless America is a phrase that we often hear
Repeated on many lips day by day, year by year
Indeed God has blessed America in a mighty way
Because of the many that to him do kneel and pray

Hurricane Katrina Was Very Bad
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
Hurricane Katrina suddenly blossomed into a killer storm
The winds, waves, and storm surge were way above the norm
Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi this storm did ravage
The force of the waters and wind were fierce and mighty savage
The levee around New Orleans suffered a major breach
The murky flood waters to the rooftops did quickly reach
Many people lost their lives, possessions and their home
Some folks sought refuge in the New Orleans Superdome
One day things were normal as people walked around
The next day debris and water covered the ground
I can only imagine the great flood of Noah's day
When upon the whole earth the flood waters did lay
Why did this major disaster happen you may ask
To recover from this ordeal will be a major task
I believe Katrina came to remind us of God's power
That can topple the world's most well built tower
The Lord has said that all things work together for good
People are helping each other in their neighborhood
Hurricane Katrina has greatly affected the USA
The Louisiana Governor declared August 31 as a day to pray
The Bible story of Job tells of his woe and grief
When everything was taken from him by that old thief
Job stated that the Lord gives and the Lord takes away
He believed that God would help him see a better day
The Lord God controls the times and the seasons
For Hurricane Katrina he had his divine reasons
I pray that many people to the Lord God would turn
And from Hurricane Katrina many lessons learn

The Silver And Gold Is Mine
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
Many ounces of silver and gold have been found
Some in gurgling rivers and beneath the ground
God placed all that silver and gold there
I just found a silver dime under my chair
It is amazing where silver and gold can turn up
Gold has been fashioned into many a pretty cup
Tons of gold and silver have been lost in the sea
Treasure hunters will dive for it for a hefty fee
Man does not really own the silver and gold
Through the ages much has been bought and sold
Without gold or silver man came from the womb
And he can't take any with him to his tomb
He dies and leaves his gold and silver for others to use
Much of it is spent on gambling, sport and booze
Not a single silver or gold coin is of use in death
It is all left behind when man draws his last breath
Greed has been the downfall of many a nation and man
Some lost their life over that gold nugget in that little pan
Life on earth is very uncertain and is very short
Where are all those people who built the Knox Fort
I know that God is the owner of all the silver and gold
He even has gold paved streets in heaven it is told
So remember that the gold and silver is not your own
It was given to you from God as a temporary loan
Treasures laid up in heaven are safe and secure
Turn your eyes upon Jesus and from gold's alure
He'll give you peace of mind that thieves cannot steal
And life eternal in heaven that is O so real

Clinging To The Lord
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
I'm clinging to the Lord with all my might
Waiting for him to shed some heavenly light
On the burdens that are troubling me sore
When he speaks the word they will be no more
Clinging to the promises he has made to me
I'm always watching for what his answer will be
I know at the right time he will lift my heavy load
I believe the promise is coming down my dusty road
My strength is ebbing yet I know that I will see
My burdens rolled away and then sweet victory
Jesus is the one to whom I must tightly hold
He cares for me because I am of his fold

Cases Of Unused Bibles
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
A friend of mine telephoned me the other day
He said come on up to South Carolina way
I have cases of unused Bibles still in the box
I will give them to you said my friend Mike Cox
I drove I-95 to the other side of Marion Lake
I was thinking unused Bibles for goodness sake
I'll take those Bibles and pass them around
They need to be used and not in boxes bound
I had a great visit with Mike and his son
They were renovating a motel and having fun
The motel building had been vacant for awhile
The old furniture and fixings made quite a pile
Jonathan Johnson bought the sad looking place
He said I'll change it and give it a new face
Soon those old rooms will be nice living quarters
Owned by the residents and not rented by boarders
I loaded the cases of Bibles and away I drove
Brought them back home to my pecan grove
I then asked the Lord who to give them to
To the inmates in the local jail I gave a few
Now those Bibles are not collecting dust
People are reading about God in whom I trust
The Word has been bound for far too long
It was good to hear Brother Mike sing a song

Plans And Preparations
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
People all over the world are making preparations
Some are making plans for wedding celebrations
Some are making plans to move to a new location
And some are making plans for a special vacation
Young couples are preparing for their first child's birth
Farmers are preparing to plant seeds in the fresh earth
Soldiers are packing and preparing to go off to battle
Ranchers are preparing hay to feed their hungry cattle
Teachers prepare their lesson plans for the school year
Students prepare for school with new clothes and gear
Athletes prepare and plan for opening ball game day
Parents prepare their budgets so the bills they can pay
Making plans and preparations are a part of this life
The band is preparing to march to the sound of the fife
As your journey on earth unfolds from day to day
I hope you made some plans to kneel and to pray
I would like to ask you a very deep question
Have you made plans for your last preparation...
Walking With The Lord
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
Enoch and Noah were two with whom the Lord did walk
I sure would have liked to been there to hear them talk
What deep conversations they must have had
Some of the things the Lord told them made them sad
How did Enoch feel when God took him away
It must have been a bright and glorious day
Noah was told that the world would come to an end
God informed him that a great flood he would send
Walking ahead of someone is mighty fine
Walking behind someone makes you second in line
But walking with someone is a special thing
Especially if you are walking with Jesus the king
The Lord gave me a title to a little book
It is called "My Walk with the Lord", take a look
Amazing true stories of life are in its' pages
Of my walk with the Lord through life's stages

A Prophet Of The Lord
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
The Bible tells about the prophet Elijah and his story
When his work on earth was done God took him to glory
Other prophets of old were instruments in God's hands
They brought God's words to people in many lands
A prophet marches to the sound of God's voice
The message he brings causes many to rejoice
He is often misunderstood and abused by scorners
And is often seen in the company of mourners
Sometimes he sighs and weeps over the state of affairs
He often prays to God and has many burdens he bears
His sleep is disturbed by divine dreams and visions
He seeks God's wisdom and will when making decisions
The office of prophet is very special indeed
To his words the people need to take heed
The message he brings is not one of his own
But the words are from God who is on his throne
The Lord still has prophets like those men of old
They are filled with the spirit and are very bold
The Lord has said do my prophets no harm
Listen to their words as they sound the alarm
Jesus Christ is coming back and very soon
The sun and stars will change so will the moon
Be prepared to meet your maker this I do say
It may be your time to die this very day

The Mystery Of Prayer
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
The act of prayer is surrounded with much mystery
Prayer to God can change the course of history
Men first began to call on God many years ago
This is recorded in Genesis four and 26 you know
I don't know whose prayer to God was the first
Maybe it was for water to quench a mighty thirst
But I thank the Lord that this one paved the way
So many others who followed can to God pray
Saints' prayers are full of odors stored in golden vials
Some are ones I prayed during my troubles and trials
Angels add incense to these prayers of the saints
They are presented to God who never slumbers or faints
At times I've prayed and the Lord answered right away
At times I've prayed and the answer never came my way
But I will keep on praying to God who reigns on high
The answer will come today, tomorrow or bye and bye

More Well Worn Bibles
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
More Well Worn Bibles
The world needs more well worn Bibles on its' tables
The Bible contains words of life and truth but no fables
People need to read and study these words of old
They are more precious than jewels and the finest gold
The Bible is the best selling book of all books
But sadly most are only used just for looks
Answers to life's questions are found in its' pages
But most people think the answer to life is higher wages
People need to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations
Fascinating stories are recorded of life and its' tribulations
The words of the Bible give hope and promises of tomorrow
When the whole world will be free from pain and sorrow
A well worn tear stained Bible tells an unique story
Of its' owner and his walk with Jesus on the way to glory
Those passages of scripture that are marked in ink
Was living water for that thirsty person to drink
I'm asking you some questions, be honest with me
Do you read your Bible or is it only for others to see...
Be Of Good Cheer
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
BE OF GOOD CHEER
When the storms and trials of life come your way
And you can barely keep the hellhounds at bay
You have no help from your neighbors or friends
Look to Jesus for in your troubles help he sends
Paul almost perished in that great storm on the sea
When the Lord said to him be of good cheer it is me
Paul trusted and had faith in the Lord and his plan
None on the wrecked ship were lost, not even a man
Satan tries to destroy and hinder God's work
Around God's children he does lurk
But prayer to the Lord has much power
Causes the enemy to withdraw and to cower
So I say unto you be of good cheer
Trust in the Lord because he is ever near
He will give you peace and wonderful grace
And strength and endurance to run the race
Hold on to Jesus' loving powerful hand
He will lead you on to the promised land
When the enemy comes in like a flood
Remember you are covered by his blood

Big Juicy Grapes
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
A favorite memory from my childhood memory pool
Is being underneath my aunt's grape arbor, it was cool
Clusters of juicy purple and white grapes hanging down
Under Aunt Irma's grape arbor near Patterson town
That memory made me want to have some grapes to eat
So I built a grape arbor where I could escape the heat
The three vines I planted were frail and very small
I wondered if they would even grow at all
My grape arbor covers over 700 square feet
To watch those vines grow was quite a treat
After three years of patiently waiting for a harvest
I finally ate my own grapes, they were the best
Every year I prune and trim those hanging vines
I believe my grapes could make some fine wines
Some of my grapes are large as a golf ball
Juicy and sweet, they're mighty fine I'm telling y'all
The Lord has said you can't pick grapes from thorns
The beautiful grape arbor on my little farm adorns
You can tell a tree by the fruit it makes
My grape vines produce real fruit not fakes

Jekyll Island, Georgia
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
Off the golden coast of Georgia is where
Lies an island that is very rare
Jekyll Island is the name of the place
The Vanderbilts and Morgans needed their space
Originally developed by a wealthy few
They built fancy houses as their riches grew
An average American Joe was not invited there
To set foot on this rich man's land they wouldn't dare
Now a century of time has passed by
Time has flown by quicker than you can bat an eye
The original rich ones now lie silent in their graves
The ocean tide still ebbs and flows with gentle waves
The state of Georgia now owns this piece of land
Live oak trees grow huge amongst the dunes and sand
On Memorial day 2005 a carriage ride I took
At those fancy houses I took a long, long look
The original Jekyll owners had 1/6th of the world's wealth
All that money couldn't buy them eternal life and health
The things of this world grow dim and fade away
Money can't keep the creeping hand of time at bay
The Lord has promised us a mansion in glory
In the Bible is told the old, old story
How if you trusted in him and believe
That eternal life and riches you shall receive

Memorial Day 2005
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
In 1776 the United States of America was born
Long ago on that bright July fourth morn
The Revolutionary War was being fought
It was freedom and liberty of forefathers sought
Many lives were lost in that great fight
Liberty was won and America became a light
That drew others to freedom on her shore
They came from England, Ireland, France and more
The civil war tore asunder our bountiful land
Brother fought brother, often hand to hand
Finally this war ended and our nation began to heal
The rifles, cannon and artillery were quiet and still
In the Indian wars and the Spanish-American conflict
Many were killed some, by a gun some by a stick
World War I and World War II came to pass
Millions were killed, some in mass
Korea and Vietnam saw our nation at war again
When will all the conflicts and wars end
Desert Storm put our troops to the test
Victory was won and proved our troops were the best
Today the War on Terror is still going strong
Please pray for our troops all the day long
Many of our troops lie silent in the grave
They gave all for America, the home of the brave
I would like to thank the many women and men
Who gave their lives for our freedom, can I get an amen
We can worship the Lord in the good old US of A
I salute all our fallen heroes on this Memorial day

Our Small South Georgia City Park
Submitted by: Irvin Rozier
I'm sitting on a bench in our city park
The day is fading fast, it's almost dark
Children are laughing, playing and swinging
I can hear some mockingbirds singing
My small town is quite old
Many tales about our park can be told
The tennis court is in disarray
Where years ago this sport I did play
The War Memorials stand silent as a reminder
Of the sacrifices paid to make our world kinder
The nearby train depot was busy in the past
I remember riding the passenger train, what a blast
Our small city park has hosted many events
Not much rent is charged, just a few cents
Weddings, carnivals, reunions and prayer meetings
Where you were met with a smile and warm greetings
Blackshear, Georgia is where our park is at
Come on down, hang up your hat
Only five traffic lights in our little town
God has blessed us, come on down
