That's my message. But I can guarantee you it's unlikely to get heard unless I write my website content with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in mind. The same is true for your message.

WHAT'S SEO?

Search Engine Optimization involves many more things than I'll cover in this article. But in a nutshell, SEO means writing your website copy in a search engine-friendly way.

That means when people are searching for your message, they're more likely to find it.

AN EXAMPLE, PLEASE

Let's return to my message. I want people in Vancouver looking for a copywriter to find me. And if I were looking for a Vancouver copywriter, I'd go to Google and type in...

copywriter Vancouver

...or...

Vancouver copywriter

Makes sense. That being the case, writing my website with SEO in mind would mean making sure the keyword phrase "copywriter Vancouver" or "Vancouver copywriter" appears liberally on my webpages.

BY THE NUMBERS

Yes, there are recommended keyword phrase densities when it comes to SEO.

That simply means if I want my webpages to turn up near the top of search engine results for "copywriter Vancouver," or "Vancouver copywriter," I'd better aim for those keyword phrases to represent anywhere from 2 to 5% of my webpage's total copy.

CALCULATING THE NUMBERS

No, I don't manually calculate my keyword densities. And neither should you.

Instead, simply copy all the content on any webpage, and then go to http://www.live-keyword-analysis.com/.

Paste the content into the form, type in the phrases you want to calculate keyword density for, and presto, your numbers automatically appear.

TOO DIFFICULT?

If it all sounds too difficult, simply go to Google and type in:

SEO copywriter

The copywriters who show up near the top of the results are probably going to be half decent at Search Engine Optimization...otherwise they wouldn't be near the top of the results.

Happy optimizing.
