These are various ideas some of which you may try, to avoid that dreaded cold that you can sometimes contract after a long flight.

These are in no order.

1. Don’t stress; Stress can be an easy way to start feeling ill

2. Wear a mask; This could be the best way to avoid catching something off other passengers

3. Take your vitamins; Echinacea. Vitamin C Airbourne.

4. Get sleep; Make sure you do not run your body down (two good nights sleep before you leave)

5. Turn off the air vent above you; People sometimes believe the air vent above your head just spreads other passengers germs (the recirculated air passes through several high grade filtering systems (electrostatic and heppa) before it is re-introduced into the cabin. The air is actually "cleaner" and more germ free than the air in most office buildings and many people's homes. If recirculated air were the culprit, then the pilots, FA's and frequent flyers would have perpetual colds)

6. Cold and Flu medicine; Take cold and flu medicine at the first sign of feeling ill

7. Wash your hands; Always wash your hands, Purell the antiseptic soap is a good option.

8. Don’t rub eyes and face; Avoid constant contact with your face

9. Neosporin; Apply Neosporin around your nostrils before you fly. People think the thin film will catch anything before it gets into your system.

10. Wipe surfaces; Wiping off surfaces which may have been contaminated by someone sick with an antiseptic might also be of some help. There are many commercial wipes that can sanitize your hands and your surroundings.

11. Avoid Alcohol; Don’t drink alcohol before you leave

These are in no order and some are “old wives tales” so take them all with a grain of salt. You may find some that work for you. Some are just common sense.
