Sense of ownership can give a lot of pride to a person. We all cherish the idea of owning our own property. Owning a home is the fulfillment of one of the top ten dreams for most people. Ownership extends to more than just a piece of paper and a sense of pride. It makes nations stronger by encouraging stability. The benefits of owning a home and land are many. When you own a home you have bought much more than just a place to stay.

However, it takes some time to build the rewards of actually owning your own property. When you are renting, you pay someone else to be able to continue living there. When you pay a mortgage you still pay, the only difference is this time, the receiver is the bank. In this case, you can still decorate and remodel your home the way you like, without worrying about having to pay for it in the end with your security deposit. But your rewards become apparent when you move or the house is paid off.

Consider when you move out of the rented home. You pack up your bags and boxes, put them in the truck, and move into your new place. If you're lucky, you get some of your security deposit back after a month. Now consider when you move out of the home you own and into another home. Again, you pack and unpack, but you have something extra. You have money in the bank, and that's when the real benefit of home ownership hits you.

When you sell your home, you get back all the money you've been paying out to the bank, plus usually more. You have been living in a huge savings account with interest. But you don't have to move out in order to take advantage of the money you have been putting into your brick and mortar piggy bank. Through low interest home equity loans and lines of credit, you can use the money you are putting into your home while you still live there. When you have finished paying off your home, you get the lifelong dream of many people: living somewhere for free.

A neighborhood where people own the homes themselves is going to be safer and more well kept because people take pride in their homes. They have a stake in keeping them well maintained and nice. Rental properties are almost always more run down, since the people who live there have no investment in the property. When you own your home, you get much more than that, however. You get a source of support and income as well as a wonderful place to call your own. Nobody will deny that space is great, but space that pays you back is even better!
