If you are looking for a way to beat the summer heat, then one of the first things that you will want to look at are air conditioners. Smaller free standing units are ideal for apartments and don't require a permit to install on your property. It is generally recommended that you turn the power off before installing an air conditioner. Don't even think twice about not having an air conditioner, the amount of money you spend to keep your home cool will more than pay for itself in the long run because things in your home won't overheat, such as your home computer or other appliances. It just makes everything easier to do.

1. Not All Air Conditioners Are Built The Same

The largest benefit that you will see from using a central air unit isn't something you can see at all - it's the reduced noise level because the unit is located in your yard. Snow and rain can often severely hamper the usability of a central air system during winter months. Not that youd want to cool things down during those months anyhow. The point being that leaves, snow and other things can get stuck in the machine and as such the central air system will require much more maitenance than its free standing counterpart.

2. The Importance Of Changing Your Filter

Don't gamble with your health - air conditioners can help alleviate asthma, allergies, and is a wonderful idea for babies. The more dust a filter collects, the sooner you will need to change it. Failure to change a filter can result in the machine breaking down, or worse, making you and your family breathe in dusty, dirty air.

3. Extend The Life Of Your Air Conditioner With A Cover

If you are looking for a solution for your entire home, a central air system might be just the thing. Unfortunately, being outdoors, they are subject to the natural elements as well as leaves and snow. You can purchase a cover for your conditioner to protect it and extend its life considerably. Some covers are also designed to minimize noise.
