For wine enthusiasts, a proper place to store and display their bottles is of key importance. This holds true whether you are a wine connoisseur with a vast collection or a social wine drinker with limited selection. Regardless of which category you fall into, there are certain things you must consider before buying a wine rack. In this article, we’ll give you some easy tips to ultimately help answer the question: Which wine rack should you choose?

As you probably already know, properly storing your wine can mean all the difference between a flavorful spirit and one that just plain falls flat. Why is this? The reason is because just like a 2 year old child, wine can be very temperamental. There are only certain parts of the world where wine grapes can be grown, as conditions have to be just perfect. The same thing applies to the finished product. If your wine is not stored at just the right temperature (usually between 50 – 60 degrees), the flavor spoils and you are left with an undrinkable wine. This is where a quality wine rack becomes a must have.

What makes a quality wine rack? Well, first of all, wine racks come in a wide variety of materials, shapes, and sizes, but they all should have the same standard characteristics. A top tier wine rack should be well built and evenly spaced, allowing the wine to breathe horizontally for maximum aging. So the question remains; how can you choose the right wine rack for your collection?

You will first have to choose a location in your home that fosters the best conditions for your collection. It could be in the basement, where you are likely to have more space. Then again, it could be under the cabinets on the kitchen counter, where you might only have room for 5 – 10 bottles. The key thing to take into account is how big your collection currently is, as well as how big you expect it to grow. Having a general idea of this information will make it easier for you to settle on a place for your wine rack.

Next, you will have to decide on the material for your wine rack. While wood is a solid (and most popular) option, there are also excellent wine racks made in more modern metal designs. These metal racks work wonderfully in small spaces, as they tend to blend right in with the rest of the décor. In addition, metal wine racks can often be contemporary in design, giving you the benefit of matching substance with style. Although it is not a hard and fast rule, wooden wine racks usually work better for larger collections in an open space, where they can really display that “wow” factor.

The most important thing to remember when choosing a wine rack is to stay within your budget, space constraints, and collection size. By keeping these three factors in mind, you will be sure to display your personal wine collection in a stylish and eye-catching way.
