From teeth whitening to full, dental facelifts, the cosmetic dental practices of today can whip you up a new smile in no time! But with the literally thousands of them in business, how do you know which one is right for you? Should you get referrals? How should you go about this process of finding the practice with whom you’ll entrust your smile? To ease your mind (as well as your teeth), we’ve come up with five tips to find the perfect cosmetic dental practice:

1. Procedure Options. Since you’ll be paying for the procedures, it makes sense that you are given a few options (with varying prices) as to what can be done to help your dental situation. Be sure to ask when you go in for your initial consultation.

2. Relaxation techniques. We all know about anesthesia and how you can wake up feeling groggy and nauseous, but that’s not the issue right here. You need to feel relaxed and at-ease when you walk in the front door in order for you to get into the dentist chair. Once settled in your seat, a good cosmetic dentist will have a CD player for you to listen to music or a DVD player/television to take you mind off of what’s going on around you. A great cosmetic dental practice will have both!

3. Safety and Cleanliness. These two topics are on everyone’s mind and they always seem to coincide. Keep a sharp eye as to the goings on when you are in the office for your initial consultation. Gloves, masks, and an overall clean environment will add to your personal security.

4. Pricelist readily available. You shouldn’t have to ask about the costs of the procedures, as the classic line of “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it” should not be in effect when you are at a cosmetic dental practice. Pricelists should be readily available as you walk in the door.

5. Location. If you have to head down a back alleyway to get to a cosmetic dental practice, it’s not a very good sign. A bright, sunny location for the world to see is definitely a better option. On another note, sometimes these procedures require that someone drive you, so having a convenient location is good for everyone involved.

On a final note, no one really enjoys going to the dentist, as dental-phobia is a consistently growing problem in world of oral hygiene. But a key point to remember is that over 75% of all dental patients leave the practice with a feeling of relief and that the procedure wasn’t as bad they thought it was going to be. Just do your homework and a bit of research, and you’ll be on your way to a winning smile in no time!
