When we go to a doctor, take our favorite pet to a vet or hire someone to paint our house, we all want to deal with experts. We want to hire someone who has made a career out of helping people with the same issues as we have now.

Thus, it is no wonder that when your customers need help, they want to hire an expert too. Whether they are looking for a relationship coach, PR consultant or a professional organizer, your customers need to know that you are an expert in your field. They need to know that when they need help, they can put their trust in an expert - you!

So how do you become an expert in your field? Let's take action – use these five steps to start your journey to being an expert:

- Learn from other Experts. Are there professionals in the fields similar to yours, who you consider experts? How did they become experts? Can you adopt some of the strategies that they have used for your own expertise building?

- Become an Authority in your Field. Demonstrate your expertise by joining online networking forums and discussion lists and sharing tips and ideas. By answering members' questions you will help them and demonstrate your expertise at the same time.

- Publish a Blog. I subscribe to about a dozen expert blogs that I read on a constant basis. These are the people whose expertise I respect, and who are experts at what they do. Publish a blog with information and news in your expertise and watch the recognition of your expert status soar. Learn how to start publishing your blog today - get the 5 Steps to Success with Business Blogging Special Report.

- Publish a Newsletter. Even if people don't read blogs, they read their email. Some people ask me if they should publish a newsletter OR a blog. I tell them to publish a newsletter AND a blog, in order to reach the largest audience with their expertise.

- Become an Author. Almost all the experts I know have one thing in common - they have published something. This something can be an article in the local newspaper, articles on their web site, books, ebooks, reports, and everything in-between. Being an author lends you more credibility and expert status among your clients.

Start taking action on these steps today, to be the expert that your customers want to hire!
