Have you ever considered that when using pay per click advertising, you want to avoid the top three slots. Top three sites receive a lot of accident clicks and 'test' clicks. You definitely do not want these most of the time, as these searchers won't be as interested in your site as someone who actually read your advertisement and decided to check out your website.

Break your PPC campaigns down into multiple groups that share a base of at least two keywords. This will allow you to create Adwords campaigns that specifically repeat those two keywords, so that they are highlighted by Google in multiple places when someone searches for them. This will increase your click-thru rate.

Once you have created multiple financially-solvent pay per click advertising campaigns on Google Adwords, you will then want to consider using other forms of pay per click advertising. This includes Overture's Network, Yahoo's Network, and MSN's Network.

When you have tested your ads with "the big boys" you will want to move over and setup pay per click advertising on smaller, less expensive networks. While the traffic probably won't be as targeted – and subsequently won't convert as well, but you are accessing another segment of the population and you will gain another avenue of promotion and more than likely pay less than you normally do per click.

Pay per click can be a formidable opponent in our battle to promote our website. Mastering it takes patience and perseverance. It's a science, treat it as such. If you take the time to test your campaigns, research and learn the necessary techniques, you will succeed.
